Yorkie and ice cubes Today Dexter grabbed an ice cube that fell on the floor from the tray. He is teething and he really liked the cube. But as it got smaller, We had a time getting it from him. We were afraid he might choke on it. Any advice if it happens again? |
Even as tiny puppies I let mine play with ice cubes but always with supervision to be on the safe side. Mine got bored with the ice cubes long before they were small enough to choke on. |
Become familiar with these... and print them out and keep them handy... Yorkies can choke on anything: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...uture-use.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...-maneuver.html Here's a link to the whole YT library: YorkieTalk Yorkshire Terrier Library - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community And teach him the 'Leave it' command today. :D |
Romeo loves to chew on ice especially after a good run which makes him "hot". I give him tiny pieces of crushed ice however and ALWAYS watch over him while he eats it. If any is left I put them in his water bowl because I have noticed that he likes cold versus room temperature water. |
Ice cubes are a great way to crack teeth. |
I actually take two ice cubes break them into pieces inside a face cloth and use a twity bread tie to secure it. Then Cedric can enjoy the cold ice for his teething but i dont have to fear him cracking a tooth or choking on the ice cube. |
My Peek a Boo chokes on his water, every time he drinks! |
Im really concerned your pup is getting alot in his mouth he could choke on or cause a blockage |
OK, I'll think it's best to nix the ice cubes. I Agree we should teach the leave it command. We are trying buts it's going to be very difficult since he runs away. Thanks |

You can freeze wet wash cloths to soothe his feverish gums. You can give him edible nylabones. There are lots of chewable toys that you can give him to satisfy his need to chew. |

Here's another good video: Warning: Not all training videos found on the internet are good or appropriate for training your Yorkie. If in doubt, post it here on YT and ask. |
