deposit What should a potential yorkie buyer expect to put down as a deposit for a puppy that costs around $1250? |
I think around $500 |

What happens to the deposit, if there is not a puppy in the litter you want? Refund, put on hold till next litter? |
The breeder knows what I want and I know the price for a female. She will contact me when she has another available litter. The deposit will be to hold my puppy and serves as a down payment. I don't plan to pay a deposit until I have selected my puppy. |
when I got my babies, I paid half - they were 8 weeks old at the time and that was to hold them until they were 12 and ready to come home. |
I think we put $500 down on Harley, prior to his birth. We were undecided on gender, but essentially the breeder knew that there were 4 pups inside the mom and it secured my spot to have one. With my breeder the deposit essentially puts yourself on the waiting list. But I'm not sure what the procedures were if a puppy was lost or something went wrong. We were second in line so it was highly unlikely that we'd lose the deposit. |
I paid half, but the breeder was not reputable my mistake. I've noticed reputable breeders usually charges about $500 as the deposit amount, but that's just what I have noticed from what I've seen so far. |
when I was... when I was breeding (not anymore) I NEVER took a deposit on unborn puppies, no matter what, and no deposits until puppies were 6 weeks old. you never know what can happen and if somthing DOES happen it causes hurt feelings all the way around. Hope that helps. |
I am in the process of purchasing a new yorkie and the breeder is requiring a $300 deposit. They are around 4 weeks now. Your deposit will secure your puppy but she then lets people pick their puppy in order she received the deposit. At 8 weeks she allows us to start picking. I am happy with the process and she lives within an hour and a half of me so I can go hand pick :) and see the parents! Amy |
