My girl Precious Hi, my name is Dottie. How is everyone today? Beautiful weather for Christmas, don't you think. My question is: Precious is a 9 yr old spayed female yorkie. She was diagnosed with dry eye several years ago. The first treatment worked good for a while. Then her eye became very inflammed and she had 3 small ulcers on the cornea. The opthalmologist she had been going to for 3 or 4 yrs said she wasn't responding to the treatment anymore. DUH!! He said to keep doing what I was doing. To me that was stupid because she wasn't responding. I began researching on the internet and I applied some of the things that I learned. I also went to a new vet. She really did help me get her over this hump. She prescribed 2 new meds which helped and I changed all of the eye drops, which also helped. Now she is having a third episode. Has been going on for about 3 weeks. She is so pitiful and her little eye hurts her so bad. I have been giving her all the same things again. A salve antibiotic for her eye, a drop that has cortisone in it, her eye drops and a pain pill. She seems better some days and some days not. Sorry I got so lengthy. I would like to know if ANYONE has had this problem with their yorkie and if so, how did you take care of it? PLEASE. Looking for all the help I can get. Thanks |
Hi Dottie, Sorry I don't have any advice, but I wanted to welcome you and Precious to YorkieTalk. Poor little thing. I'm sure her little eye is really bothering her. I hope you find out what the problem is very soon. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Too! I would discuss it with the vet. Maybe the condition is changing and you may need to alternate the meds, or increase frequency on some, or try different combinations. That needs to be worked out with your vet... the only way they can help is to be kept informed of what works and what doesn't work. |
Precious Thank you so much for your advice and concern. I am in contact with her vet on a regular basis. There is not much else that they can do. I have been using some natural treatments and I am hoping that will help. It is not a curable condition, so I have to keep trying different things myself. I thought maybe someone had had the same experience. |
