Am I crazy!!!! Am I? Wait maybe don't answer that :) Anyway, I heard/saw a really sad story about a cat that is in foster care after being intentionally starved by the previous owner simply because " he thought it was funny" :( I love cats and of course dogs. My dex will be 1 yr in feb. he is starting to get more and more in routine with me which I love. Ok so my problem: to adopt or not adopt the cat. Dex will be 1 yr in feb and the cat is around 2 . As far as the foster mom knows the kitty hasn't been around dogs. Dex has been around cats briefly . He seemed to do just fine. Do any of you have experience with yorkies and cats? Any issues? I am supposed to go see and spend some time with the cat tomorrow morning . |
We have two cats and two dogs that live together harmoniously, but they were introduced when they were young. We got the kittens first, and at about 8 months old, we brought home Couver (a 5 month old puppy). Khloe came to live with us around 5 months as well, so she does great with the cats. I would go meet the cat and see how he and Dex do together. It doesn't hurt to go see :) |
I say take your pup to meet the kitty at the Foster home & if all goes well then bring the kitty home. It may take a bit for them to get used to each other but that's normal when introducing an adult dog & an adult cat. I have Always had both dog's & cat's together in my home. |
Would say meet the. Cat:) I have lots of friends who have both cats and dogs so you should be ok Good Luck |
Thanks you all. I think I am just worried about dex getting jealous or upset because he is used to being the center of attention all of the time. The cat is a Siamese/ snowshoe mix. |
We had a beautiful Maine Coon boy (who sadly crossed Rainbow Bridge the week of Thanksgiving) that we had for 12 yrs before we got our first furbutt...Mckenzi was fine the the pup but, the pup didn't like her..thought they would get used to each other....it didn't...they lived together but, anytime the cat would come to us for affection for whine for food she would attack him...then we got another pup....I think because Sadie didn't like him she taught Lillie to not like him...I would never bring another cat into our home as long as we have the girls...and now a new little boy... :( That being sad....When I was married to my first husband We had 3 dogs and 6 cats and they all lived together great....not sure...maybe it's just yorkies and their fearless ways?! |
One of our cats is about one year old. He and Jersey (6 1/2 month old yorkie) play, play, play! It is so cute! One day I am going to get a video and try to post it here. I think that playing together is probably the exception though and most at best, just tolerate each other or live in harmony. I would see if you can take the cat on a trial basis, maybe about 2-4 weeks to give them a chance. I have fostered greyhounds for many years and it was always a condition of adoption that if they did not work out, they had to come back to the adoption group. When doing an adoption to a home with other pets, there is always a chance they will not get along. I am sure that the person fostering the cat knows that. Best of luck! |
Do you have a new kitty ? |
