New to the Forum! Hi everyone! I hope its ok that I don't have a purebred yorkie. Jack is a yorkie/maltese. I kept coming across this site when i was looking for information on yorkies and saw alot of good info here. He is just the CUTEST ever. I have only had him 4 days and I love him so much! The only thing I am having trouble with him is sleeping. He whines and whines for hours every night. Last night he whined and cried for three hours straight. We haven't had much sleep the last four nights. We just bought him a crate today so I hope tonight will be better. I have lots of other questions but will see where the right spots are to post them. Thanks for having me! I will post pics up in a little bit. :D |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and congrats on the new puppy. For the first few weeks Callie would cry a lot in her crate. I would suggest taking her out to potty when she cries and then putting her back in and ignoring her. Also you should make sure she can see you when she is in her crate sometimes that can help. But she is a puppy and everything is new to her so try to keep that in mind. |
Welcome to YT.:) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! I tried to keep Khloe in a crate when she first came home, but I found that she didn't whine when she got to sleep with us. I think yorkies just need to be with their owners. |
Welcome to YT! Can't wait for pics(: |
Hi and Welcome to YT! |
Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk! Hope you enjoy it here. |
Hi and welcome to YT! Hot Rod whined the first couple of nights and then settled down. We wound up getting him an expen so he could have his "bed" (crate) and potty pad, water and a bit of room to roam around in. Can you put his crate on a table beside your bed so he can see you at night? This might help a bit. Can't wait to see pictures. |
Thanks for all the replies! I called the people I got Jack from and he suggested wrapping a hot water bottle in a towel and placing it in his crate. WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! He still cries for one or two minutes but settles down quite quickly. I stuck my finger in the crate and softly told him "shhhhh". He liked that too and went right to sleep. he slept from 11:15pm last night all the way through until 6:00 this morning :) I did cover it with a blanket on the top and sides just to keep any draft away from him but we take the blanket off and leave the door open during the day. today he went in all by himself and was playing with a toy for a few minutes. I also put a treat in for him so he will see that its ok to be in there. Tonight was the first night we left him all alone in his crate for about three hours while we went out. He was really whining when i walked up to the front door. Im sure he will get used to it. he is a really good boy. P.S. its not a enclosed crate...its actually a cage. I dont like the crates that they cant even see out of except for the doors. I wouldnt want to be in there so we got him the cage. :) |
