New Yorkie Mom Hello, I am new to the site. I am awaiting my new baby girl. I am so excited. I pick her up this Friday. I actualy met her the end of October, but wanted to introduce her to my daughter for Christmas. Bella is 3 1/2 months. When I tell people that I have a yorkie, they become overly concerned about her size. She went to the vet for her checkup, and she weighs 5 lbs now. Her parents are between 5 & 7 lbs. I am fine with whatever her size will be. I have done so much shopping for her, my husband says that Bella is going to have a better Christmas than him:rolleyes: I am so ready for my baby to cone home:):):) I love her already. |
Congrats on your new baby! Be sure to post pics! |
Congratulations on your new baby! You have lots of joy coming your way! |
Congrats,, |
Thanks, and I'm sure she will be a little bundle of joy. Friday can't get her fast enough. |
Congrats on your new puppy. |
Congrats on your new baby! Just two more days of waiting!! Be sure to post pics. |
Congratulations on your new family member. The 'size' thing will always be with you. I place the responsibility with AKC. With improved nutrition, people and animals have gotten bigger. But AKC still wants 4 -7 # dogs. For a Yorkie to settle below 7#, they need to be just 4# or so at a year old. That's simply unreasonable if they're fed properly. Unless you're showing your baby, a more reasonable adult weight would be 10# or more. That's still a very small dog. |

Just one more day, and I bring her home....:D |
Thanks. I'm not worried about her size at all. I just want her to be healthy and happy. I am so happy I found this site, everyone is so helpful and welcoming. I will be sure to post pictures. And I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions once she comes home. |

Isn't it the YTCA that determines the standard used by the AKC? I agree that the weight requirements as written may be unreasonable healthwise for Yorkies of today. However, it is my understanding that weight of a Yorkshire Terrier is *not* a conformation disqualification either. Regardless of size, a Yorkie is a wonderful and beautiful companion and, like all our furry friends, one we should not judge based on its size but rather on its many other fabulous attributes and especially on its love, devotion, and its spirit. :) - Cat |
