Kibble trick Hi Everyone! i thought i would share a little trick that has been working for a our picky little 6 month old. I got so much helpfull information on here so i thought i would try to return the favor. Brew is one of the many Yorkies that seems to give up on his kibble after a very short time. I caved to his needs by purchasing mulitple kibbles hoping to find one that he liked to no avail. I found a trick that seems to have peaked his interest in his kibble again...He has a little saskquatch plush toy which was his first toy as a pup. He worked a hole into the toy so i pulled all the stuffing out of it so he wouldn't eat it up. Now it's just a pelt of his fav toy...which he loves. (Plus i couldn't bear to throw away one of his favs) i put a serving of his kibble into the toy and now he has a great time flinging it around and working the kibbles out. It's working really well for us, and he is eating just plain kibble which he would never do if i just put it in his bowl or on the floor. he's a long way from being a perfect eater, but this is definitly a step in the right direction for us!!!! |
I will sometimes put a few kibble bits instead of a treat in Sophie's Kong and then she'll head straight for her bowl of kibble. It acts like an appetizer. I usually do it when she brings me her Kong too many times for a treats. That's when I slip in the kibble.;) I guess it's more interesting for them that way, lol. |
I find Oz wants his kibble much more if I toss it away from the bowl a couple kibbles at a time, so he has to "chase" it. If he does decide to eat some out of the bowl, he grabs a mouthful and runs over to his "home base" rug and eats it there, then runs back for a couple more, and so on. Yorkies are strange! To the OP, thanks for the good idea! |
Ordinary kibble offered in ordinary settings gets just passing interest. But I've found that if just one tiny Science Diet little dog piece of kibble is offered only with the command 'sit' or 'shake' or 'down', it becomes the brass ring. Go figure...! Sometimes, the shunned bowl of kibble is only a few feet away while my guys work their tails off to get tiny bits of kibble. |
Great idea, we are going to have to try that! |
