abandoned yorkie I'm hoping someone can help me. My sister and I found a yorkie wandering in a park. She was covered head to toe in poopie dreadlocks, and had obviously not eaten in awhile. After cleaning her up and feeding her, we proceded to try to find her owner. It has been a couple weeks and we can't find her owner. After she lost her mal-nutritioned look, it became apperant she was very pregnant. Now, I personally don't believe in doing this to such a little dog, but the damage has been done, and she is too pregnant to abort the babies. Can someone please give me some advise as to the specific diet I should have her on, or help me find out when she will have the babies. Also, I could use some information on how I can help her with her delivery. I really want to cry for her she is very uncomfortable. The babies looked like they were on her side. A couple days ago, the pups apeared to have "dropped" and she seems to be producing milk now. I can feel the puppies move. Please help, but don't judge me, if it were me, I would have spayed her before this happened. I have an eight year old retriever I had spayed when she was 5 months old because I believe there are too many dogs already without homes. I know this because I volunteer for the Humane Society in my area. Thank you to all who help. |

no judgement- no worries My advice is to go get professional help. They are the ones who will know what to do and what will be best for her. I understand how hard this must be, but take her to the vet and then go from there. Everything will be alright- no worries. Let me know how things are going. |
If your plans are to keep her litter... IMHO get her on puppy food right away it gives her the extra calcium and protein needed while pregant and take her to the vet ASAP and have her health checked out, if you decide to go on with the litter...Once she has whelped continue giving her puppy food through weaning, 1/2 table of daily or pet tab or Nu-Vet (depending on her weight) and also give her goats milk daily to suppliment (dont give cows milk) I wish you the very best..hope all comes out healthy and happy. |
Not knowing what kind of dog dot her pregnant, you really need to go to the vet. The puppies maybe to big for her to deliver, she may need a c-section. |
This is so sad....at least she found you. I hope everything works out fine...anything i can help let me know:) |
:Puppy:  She was lucky she found you to care of her. I think you need to take her to the vet as soon as possible. Hope everything works out for both of you. Good luck. |

I would also recommend a trip to the vet......hate to shell out unexpected $$$$ like that...but who knows........you may end up with a great litter of pups that will be adorable and easy to find homes.....I think ANYTHING that comes out of a yorkie mom has to be adorable....(make sure the puppies go to homes with a FIRM spay/neuter contract!!!!!) |
Thank you all for your help. I know nothing about yorkies, but this site is a huge help. All I do know is Honey has entered my life for a reason, and I'm going to do everything possible to make her as happy as she makes me. She's such a clown, and so well behaved too. I have made her an appointment to see the S.P.C.A. vet tomorrow, and will let everyone know how she is doing. As well, I am going out now to get her some puppy food and will try to find goats milk (that might be a toughie, lol). Will try to keep everyone interested in her welfare updated. Thanks again for all your time. :aimeeyork Honey & Roberta |
You're a good person. Sometimes it's hard to remember for every person out there that abuses their dog there is someone like you. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out. |

Good luck with the pups! That mommy is VERY lucky you found her! The more healthy, happy and calm she, is the better her chances are to have a safe delivery. Keep us posted! |
Oh, poor sweet little pup. I'm so glad you found her. Bless you for helping her. Please keep us posted. As for goat's milk, I found it in the baking section at the grocer near the condensed milk. Good luck! |

I wanted to update all the wonderful people concerned about Honey's health. I have taken her to the vet, I couldn't afford an ultrasound, but she is definately preggers. The vet says she is doing well. Thanks to all your wonderful suggestions, Honey is being fed a mixture of dry kibbles, soft puppy food, and cottage cheese. She seems to love this mixture and is eating well. She is producing milk and her sacks look fairly full, so we believe she will be "whelping" soon. Just so nobody is concered about my not having money for an ultrasound, please rest assured I have saved up enough so that if there are any problems with delivery she will have a c-section. The vet says he doesn't think its completely nessesary at this time. Again Thank You for all your help and I will continue to keep everyone interested informed of her progress. Pictures to come soon. |
