Suggestions for Allergic Mother, Please. Hello, My husband and I are going to my parents' for Christmas. My mother is extremely allergic to dogs, but is also aware that we never kennel our furries or leave them with friends...they go with us or we don't come. lol We've already taken the following measures: Bought a Filtrete anti-allergen filter for their furnace while we're there. Bought doggy-friendly lotion that cuts back on their dander production. She's also a touch umm..I don't know how to say this (she's my mother and my best friend), but is 'touchy' about her carpets. Our dogs never potty on our carpets but for whatever reason our Brussels mix goes on their carpet. =/ So... We bought doggy diapers for the time we're there. We don't ever use these things because I don't agree with using them unless the dog is sick/incapacitated/senior with bladder problems. Hopefully it won't mess up Bella's stellar Potty Patch trained position. There's no WAY she'd be allowed to have her potty patch on their carpet. We also have a playpen that we use at home for Bella and will be taking it with us. Are there any other steps we can take to ensure that we did our part in taking Mom's allergies and doggy doodee phobia into consideration? I want this to be a joyful holiday, NOT spent by worrying about her allergies or carpets, and with NOBODY making our furries to feel unwelcome. It has caused us to just up and leave in the past. I don't want that happening. Let me add...my mother is not an ogre, lol. She adores our pets, and has made that very clear in how she coos at them and looks at them, and speaks lovingly to them. She can't touch them is all, and errmm....really likes her carpets. =/ Suggestions are appreciated, but being nasty about my mother won't be.:D |
It sounds like you have it covered. My cousin is allergic to dogs but more just if she touches them. I hope your Holidays go well and I think its wonderful that your Mom lets you bring your furbabies even though she is allergic to them. |
Thank you, Chachi. :) We definitely want to make sure we do everything we can do to help her allergy not rear it's ugly head. Thank you for the reassurance! I'm definitely *not* looking forward to seeing my babies in diapers, but hey...a few days (hopefully) will not have any lasting effects. =/ |
