Advice on adopting a retired stud We have a 13 yo toy fox terrier (spayed) and a 1 yo yorkie Jax (neutered). We have the opportunity to possibly adopt a 2 yo biewer male (unneutered) he has been bred (don't know any more yet - he's supposed to be 7 or 8 pounds so I don't imagine he would be in high demand as a breeder:confused:). Our older dog is pretty sedate and we have wanted to have Jax a more active playmate as he is very friendly and loves when his yorkie buddy visits. So, we are seriously considering this and in fact, are going to meet him and find out more tonight. Of course, we would neuter him immediately. If you have any experience with this would you please post. My concerns so far would be aggression from new pup, marking and would/could it stop after neuter. |
I have never got a older dog, but i do have Biewers and they are very laid back and have never shown any aggression toward the reg. yorkie they are very loveable |
First congratulations on your possible adoption,if possible have the new pup neutered before bringing him home to your other pups or home, that would minimize the marking and possible aggression due to pack order. now with that said, he might still try to mark his territory, give him a large outside area where he can mark and that will benefit to minimize the marking situation.. hugs, |

I am wondering about using belly bands? |
yes, you can also use belly bands, i use them with my stud when we go out visiting my family, that way he will not leave his visit anywhere...LOL, and having a doggy door is great... :) hugs, |
