Grooming a baby? Ok I went to brush my new baby yorkie. While i was brushing her I noticed she was a little matted. So had to get rid of matts. Now she looks bald in some areas. I know I feel guilty about it. She seems fine now. Shes a little over 4 months now. used a comb sisccors and a slicker. Will the areas that seemed to be brushed thin come back and also it looks like she has dandruff. Any ideas on how to help her skin with the dandruff. I want her to be a happy dog just like her older sister pup. Who happens to be 7 now. |
A slicker is not necessary for Yorkie coats. Some people use them, especially on cotton coats. I used a tiny flea comb to comb Max from head to toe his first 6 months. There are many detangling aids: Cowboy magic, corn starch, Pet Silk Silk serum. Anything that gives the hair "slip" so that you can pull apart the tangle. The thickness of the coat and the rate it grows depends on the individual pup. Stay on top of the combing and brushing daily to avoid tangles and mats. Keeping the coat clean also helps. Use a good shampoo and conditioner. What kind are you using now? Some products can contribute to dandruff. |
Cowboy Magic is a great product. I don't know what I would do with out it. |
The dandruff could mean a yeast infection of the skin. The vet can tell you for sure and they have special shampoos and stuff to get rid of it, along with oral meds. I'm sure your baby's coat will grow back soon. Next time use a detangler so you won't have to cut away the matts. I love Cowboy Magic also, I buy it at a western store, where they sell feed and western clothing, etc. You can also find it online. It might seem expensive, but it lasts a really long time, as a little goes a long way;) |
