My Yorkie Deka This is my first time being on this sight and I'm not really too sure what I'm doing or if I'm even at the right place to post. Hopefully someone out there can tell me the right way to post. I do have a question however. I have a six year old Yorkie who has been trained to go on a pee pad if we're not at home, or if she has to go and we haven't let her outside. All of a sudden she has stopped using the pee pad and has decided to go on our bedroom carpet (in the doorway) and right across the hall is the laundry room with her pee pad. She only has to walk about seven more steps to her pee pad but she has decided not to use it. Can anyone tell me why she has decided to do this. Up until now we have never had a problem with her. I'm beside myself and don't know what to do. Any answers? Thanks, Nancie P.S. I apologize if I'm posting this at the wrong place, this is my first post. |
Welcome! Has there been any changes in the house especially the laundry room that could have scared her? All 3 of mine started having accidents when I brought an elderly male rescue in to the house. I have been trying to reinforce their training with special treats. I hope you can get some help. |
Haven't been any changes to the Laundry Room. The only change that has been made is we bought a new carpet for the living room and I have gated the room off so that she can't go in. I have no idea what happened and I don't know how to re-train her. I hate to go back to the beginning and put her in a crate. She doesn't seem to be going anywhere else in the house, only in our bedroom by the doorway. Am going to have the carpet changed and hopefully maybe that will help. |
First thing to rule is her health. Maybe a trip to the vet to make sure there are no underlying health issues. If there is nothing physically wrong then you can start checking out her environment. Made any major changes lately? These little ones......who knows what goes through their little mines. I know my little one will stop using the pee pad if there are more then two spots on it or if it its a few inches from where it should be. Yes......she is that anal :p |
She just had a vet checkup so I know that's not the issue. Thought maybe I'd try turning on the light and maybe that would help. Maybe something scared her and she's afraid to go in. The place she is peeing is the doorway right across from the laundryroom and as close to the laundry room she can get w/o going in there. Thanks for your reply. |
I would also be concerned about a possible bladder infection or some other health issue. If she were younger I would say it is just a behavior issue but she is not that young. If she checks out alright then I would just watch her more closely and reward her greatly when she does it right. Also the liquid house training aids being added to the pee pads may help remind her of the correct place to go. There is something bothering her. Sometimes it takes a major investigation to figure these things out. |
