My tissue shredder is now eating it...is she missing something? No matter how hard I try, between the endless colds, tissues in the box, up high, down low, in my purse-where ever, Princess finds them! She used to just shred them & that would be it. She usually hunts for one when I can't give her attention at the moment & will come shred it in front of me to get my attention. Now I've noticed she's been fully eating some of what she finds. It's not her gulping what's in her mouth if I come to get it, she just eats it like it's a piece of chicken:rolleyes: until I get on her to drop it. Then she just chews & swallows faster.:eek: Is she just being naughty & weird or could she be lacking something in her diet? |
No answer, but mine does the same thing. :rolleyes: :eek: He's not tissue discriminate - any paper will do. |
I got so tickled when I saw this .....it must be a yorkie thing cuz my Gizmo is a paper shredder as well, I like to place a paper towel under my glass on the tableand if I pick the glass up he will jump on the arm of my chair and snatch the paper towel and take off running so I can chase him. Then he stops shreds it all up and then he has no more interest in it after it is all torn up. |
You all have me rolling with laughter. Not sure how old your babies are but I remember Romeo doing this as well when he was younger. He'd grab paper towels, napkins or tissues and run so I could chase him. Then he'd quickly "fold" it so that it's all in his mouth -- this totally freaked me out because I was afraid he would choke. Surprisingly he outgrew this as well as chewing. So my guess is it's a phase that will eventually go away. |
We make sure to never leave any paper within Lexie's reach because we've come home to a whole living room covered it confetti lol. Eating the paper is odd but i don't think its a sign of something lacking. I know in some cases of eating grass it might be a deficiency but it's probably just a bad habit she picked up. |
Addyson is 2 years old and she makes sure if anyone leaves paper towels, tissues so she can get them they are hers and she will shred and eat them. I have stressed over this from time to time about the eating of the items. She goes out of her way to get them. It is really hard to keep them away from her when you have a room full of people. Most people are not in the habit of guarding their paper towels the way you have to do to keep them away from Addy. I think they just enjoy eating the paper and not for the lack of something they need in there diet. I feel your pain. |
She's probably bored. Rylee eats more stuff when he doesn't have a bone to chew. Ellie loves to shred tissue and Rylee likes to eat it. |
I think this is a sign of issues with the dog. Cesar Millan has had some good shows on this kind of thing. Lack of exercise is usually the biggest issue. I don't think it's good for any person or animal to eat paper. Regardless of the fact that it comes from trees, it has been chemically treated, bleached, etc, and should not be ingested, IMO. I have found that Oz can become very fixated on things - he will steal things like business cards, socks, etc. He will NOT give up on it even if you take it away, for a long time. I think because yorkies are hunters of rats, that's just part of the breed as well. They were bred to dig, tunnel, chase - and I'm sure most of us don't give our dogs the opportunity to do those things. I don't think people have to agree with everything Cesar says, but I believe he is right in that we must understand that our "babies" are first dogs, then the breed, then our companions. |
Well I guess she's not the only weirdo out there;), JK! We try to keep them up but she still manages to find them.:rolleyes: She'll be 2 next month:eek:, & the vet just told me that she's probably pretty set in her personality/activity level until she's much older-wild child! Lol. Fine by me.:) I wanted to add sometimes if I catch her & she's willing to drop it, it will be stuck to her tongue or beard & she'll panic trying to get it off, or she wont even know it's there & will look at me like "what are you talking about?! I did drop it!" |

I find it really funny that despite all of his stomach problems and allergies, a used kleenex went down for, my boy, and out with no problem. Can't digest chicken, beef, rice, oatmeal, but noooo, kleenex is fine. :P Harley does this when we're in the bedroom and I'm working and he wants my attention, luckily this is only when the kleenex garbage can is full, and he can get them out, so we keep it at a manageble level where the lid still closes and its fine. |

Dog with Pica (obsession with eating foreign objects can be suffering from malnutrition, vitamin deficiency, or thyroid disorder. paracites and dietetics are two rarer reasons. Then again the easiest cure and most common reasoning she could just be hungry and just need small meals through out the day-like 6 meals a day and see if that changes it. My Princess is on vitamins & mineral compounds which curbs her from eating foreign objects-although when she gets a reaction (she is severely allergic to fleas) she despite doing well on her "meds" will freak out chew her own fur off and the fur off the other dogs also-she seems predisposed to go for plastic items around her. |
My dogs love to chew any kind of wood-from sticks to chair legs-I had to curb that quick and of all the dogs Elvis is my little sneaker-good thing he's always on my heels so I can watch him like a hawk. Having said that such issues in life are a good motivator to keep a very decluttered home with everything up (UP) and in it's place. |
