Update On My Boys
 

My teapots, Cooper and Max relocated with me to Florida in October. Things were extremely rough, to say the least! We came from a very rural area with a fenced in backyard. I never took them on walks. It's not that I didn't want to. I couldn't. The pulling, tugging, barking, out-of-control behavior put me in tears on a regular basis (i don't cry much).

Now we are temporarily living in my parents' retirement community in Florida:eek: I have no choice but to walk them. And with that being said, after a month, I had no choice but to hire a personal trainer:rolleyes:

Today was day 5 of our 6 day in home training sessions. They are absolutely amazing in the house! They no longer bark out the window, at the doorbell or even when UPS or USPS mail arrives. They are now both trained to sit and wait at the front door prior to walks. Max likes to lunge a little at the door when i open it. He is a work in progress but that progress certainly is happening.

Walks? Errr....yeah, we walk. I've only been able to walk them separately but I've been trying very hard to walk them together. Today they were fantastic together! I'm 100% pleased with Cooper's behavior. Oh and he smiles on command 100% of the time now. I'll need to upload a new video soon. Max still barks quite a bit on his walks. He's very frightened of anything and everything that moves but we are forcing him to experience as much as possible and maneuvering him through those tough situations. I even took him to his first pet store outing last week. Getting through the parking lot was not fun but he certainly was a well behaved boy while he shopped.

All in all my boys are doing quite well. Max hasn't had a seizure since mid-summer. My boys are well socialized now and making lots of friends both in this community as well as at the local dog park. I'm happy to share this good news with my YT family and look forward to posting more positive updates in the future.

So glad to hear those handsome boys are doing so well in their new home! The training sounds wonderful, and they are catching on so quickly! You'll have to post some pics when you get a moment. I love to see Cooper smile!

It's also so good to hear Max has been seizure free since this past summer.

My son Coco Skittles Starburst is a rescue, and he is a work in progress! I was debating getting a trainer, but considering all that you have written and on all the money I have already spent on him on ehm not so important things, it would help us all! I noticed that you wrote about one of you babies not having a seizure-congrats by the way! My son also suffers from seizures and is on phenobarbitol-is yours on this as well? I ask because since going on it, Coco has been extremely hyper and barks a lot more than normal. Also, which trainer/training company have you used?

Thanks. It's just a local company. Yes, my baby Max is on phenobarbital and is doing so well!

That is great that they are adjusting! And really good about Max! I know that they will continue to excel in their training.

Awwww, that is just awesome! Sounds like they are making great progress!! I bet they are quite popular in the retirement community! So glad things are going well for you all! :)

Wow, I could use a trainer with Yoshi, he is one of those that barks when the door bell rings or see another animal in the yard...I think I need the training for myself.

I paid a lot of money for really simple tips. But they work. When Yoshi barks, scream no and slap a wall or a table/counter really loud at the same time. It will completely confuse and shock him. I did it for a few days and eventually stopped slamming on the wall. The word NO worked by itself. Now, believe it or not, when the doorbell rings they know not to bark.

Try it.
