Looking for a Yorkie Poo puppy- Need help
 

Hello,
My husband and I are looking to purchase a yorkie poo (yorkie/poodle) puppy. We have done A LOT of research and we think this would be the perfect breed for us. I know its not considered a "pure breed" but that is not important to us. We just want to make sure that our pup is happy and healthy as we know (and want) this to be a long term commitment of 10-15yrs.

I have been researching on the internet and come across many breeders..but I dont feel like I can trust them. I have read many reviews and usually end up finding awful stories about the breeder. I am not going to purchase a puppy because its a good price or has a cute face. Like I said- the most important thing to us is health. We are animal lovers so we will think the puppy is "cute" no matter what! And the price is of course a factor - but if it means paying more for a reputable breeder then we will do that.

We are located in Tampa, FL- we are willing to drive anywhere in Florida and even into Georgia to find a breeder. We want to drive to meet the breeder and see the parents etc. We dont want to ship our puppy. I think its just too much stress and again- we want to meet the breeder in person.

We would be looking to get a puppy in March (Spring break- as my husband is a teacher) but if we need to wait longer to find the right breeder we will do so. I am not looking for a puppy right now- I am just doing my research so that we are prepared, knowledgeable, and connected with a breeder some time early next year.

I hope someone can help us - maybe you have a yorkie poo or know of someone who does and can provide me with contact info for a breeder. I know these forums are usually a great place to find helpful people who also share our love for animals. We would appreciate and help and/or advice

Welcome to YT:) You would probably have good luck looking in the shelters, honestly. They get all kinds of breeds and puppies too, so I'm sure you'd stumble upon a YorkiePoo eventually. It would take persistence, and maybe tons of phone calls, but you'd be rescuing a dog that needs a forever home:love:

There are no reputable breeders that breed mixes. Please go to a shelter there are lots of mixed breeds that need a forever home and you would be doing a good thing rather than supporting a breeder that doesnt care that there are plenty of mixed breeds in shelters and is just breeding more to make money.

Also if you adopt one a bit older, you will have a better idea of what they will look like at maturity. A mixed breed puppy can end up looking nothing like it's parent or littermates, really it's a crapshoot. Also you'll know their temperament as well. You can search petfinder.com and there are plenty of yorkiepoos available. Mixes really shouldn't be more than a few hundred dollars.

Also don't worry about papers. Mixed breed dogs shouldn't have papers, and if they do, would be from ACA, APRI, C(ontinental)KC, etc. Those registries are not legitimate registries, only AKC is, and even they are not perfect. AKC will not paper a mixed dog.

Poodles and Yorkies are the two best breeds in my opinion! Grew up with poodles and now have yorkies- both great little dogs (very different though). I recommend looking for a rescue- there are tons of mixes in rescues. Or, pick the breed you like better and look for a reputable breeder of that breed. You won't go wrong either way.

Well the sad fact is; most purebred breeders will not breed crossbreeds, in fact in CKC Canadian Kennel Club, it is not allowed, it is a breach of ethics to do so, and to offer these innocent pups up for sale.

I can't direct you to any reputable person or agency because I don't know of any.

But please look up the health concerns of both the Poodle and the Yorkie. See that each of the parents have a CHIC number. Both sire and dam, have been oFA'd for hips, elbows(perhaps). Luxating Patella for both breeds. CERF on both breeds. Thyroid for Yorkies. And Bile Acid Tests for Yorkies
As well for Yorkies I'd look at a hyperuricosuria genetic test. Heart exam.

For poodles I don't know what else extra; research the national breed club for poodles and see what you find out.

This is very important these tests; I'd be surprised if you actually found a mixed breed breeder who has done all the preliminary screening.
