Help! Furbaby chews tags. I bought baby Lexi her first collar for around her neck just for her tags (not to ever use for a walk) & she will NOT leave the tags alone. She had them on less than 10 minutes & there are teeth marks all over them. I tried distracting, praise, treats, etc.) but no matter what I did she would not leave them alone. I don't want to put tags on a harness. I want something that is on her at all times. I am going to have her microchipped when she gets spayed in another couple months & now I think I am going to buy her an engraved ID collar. She has a county tag & a rabies tag. |
Her collar may be too loose. There is no way my Yorkies could chew on, their own tags. I am also wondering, if you put the tags on with a large S hook ? My dogs tags are hooked onto the collar with a tiny circle, like a tiny key ring. |
I took a sharpie marker and wrote my Ph# inside Abby's collar (just a Target one- until she grows..hopefully Cindy will be able to make her a matching silk collar and harness then.:) |
I can barely get 2 fingers between her neck & the collar & it is really tight when I do that. She cannot slip out of the collar - the first thing I checked for these little "Houdini's" (LOL). I also wanted to make sure it was not too tight either however. Her collar has a D ring & the tags hang on the very small circular type ring (not an S hook). The tags are kinda big for such a little dog. She weighs 3#. I expect she may get to be 5-6# but hard to tell & if she does then this may not be an issue any longer but in the meantime......??? |
If her tags are big maybe you could get smaller ones? Are you telling her no when she is chewing on them and then removing them from her mouth? Have you tried bitter apple spray on them? |
I don't know as though I could get smaller tags - these are just your standard size rabies & county tags I have always seen for our State. I did tell her very firmly no & naughty & removed the tags from her mouth, but ya know what they say about Yorkie stubbornness. LOL It is like when she gets the "extra attention" that seems to incite her all the more to not listen. :( Maybe I will just have to get the engraved collar & when she is micro-chipped that is all we will be able to use - at least until she gets older & maybe (just maybe) she will outgrow a little of this defiance. (One can hope, right - or, is it just denial on my part?? LOL ;)) |
My truffles chews her tags as well drives me loopy! Truffles will be one the 5th ! And I hoped she would grow out of it but no luck ! Time for a engraved collar for her birthday present ! Good luck :) |
I got Toki a noiseless tag that lays flat Boomerang Tags She grew out of trying to chew on her tags but I don't like having a big mess of loud tags hanging off her neck. She has one of the flat information tags and then her rabies tag on her collar when we go to the dog park. |
We keep our kids tags on their harness as we don't use collars. |

I have tags on the D-ring of their harnesses. We don't use collars here, but maybe this will solve your issue. |

Harry HATES wearing ANYTHING, his tags always bother him, probably the jingly noise....so I looked these up and have just ordered him one...of course I had to get another collar to match....;) :D Sally + Harry x |
I only put a small ID tag on Gracie. There is really no need to put the other tags on her. Keep those in a safe place in your home or put them in your purse if you are going some where. I have Gracie micro chipped but prefer to keep a small ID tag on her for in case of emergency. It just has my phone number on it. |

Over here, we have to have not only our phone number, but address as well....so I guess Harry's isn't THAT small...;) :) Sally + Harry x |
