Urgent- dog poisoning continues in my local park I am new to this forum, there is something important regarding the safety of dogs in my local park that you may need to be aware of. You may have heard about the tragic antifreeze poisonings of dogs in Lyme valley park , Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire over the summer months. Sadly the most recent case was a few weeks ago a beloved border terrier named Foxy had to be put to sleep as she had eaten some food in the park containing antifreeze, I have seen the report from the vet concerning this so I know it is the truth. Eventhough the council have been urged to act, at the very least to put up notices to protect animals from futher harm, they have refused to act. Bearing this in mind my family and I have decided to present them with a petition in the hope that they will take the matter seriously. We have 110 signatures on the paper version of this petition and the online one was launched yesterday. I urge you to please read the link below and sign the petiton, help to stop another dog being poisoned before it's too late :- http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/s...e-valley-park/ we need as many signatures as we can get. Thank you Ellen J Ford |
This is terrible but why do people let there dogs eat things they find at a park? |
It is terrible, but the problem is someone putting poison down. Sometimes it's not a case of letting your dog eat something in the park its something that cannot be predicted. |
Horrible, and I don't think people are "letting" there dogs eat something in the park. Dogs are supposed to be able to be running free. If they are far from you there is no way you're going to be able to stop them. You may not even be able to see them pick something up. I really don't see why people would do this. There really isn't any "satisfaction" that could be had by the crazy psycho because they never see the results of their maniac ways. I heard of the same thing happening in Connecticut and Maine as well as a few other US places. I don't really bother going to the dog parks. My yard is big enough... |
My feelings exactly beecee. Lyme valley is quite a big park there are lots of dog walkers that use the park, there are also childrens play areas and wildlife. I agree with you, if a dog is off a lead, as they need to be to have a decent run, how can you stop them from picking something up? Noone willingly 'lets' their dog pick things up. In Foxy's case her own let her off the lead to play ball, and she ate something and that was it. I knew Foxy and she was a lovely little dog, I felt physically sick at the news as it could have easily been one of my dogs.In which case I would most probably have been locked up by now. Whoever is doing this must know what they are doing surely? They must have a hate of dogs/animals and people who love them- its just sickening. |

I am horrified that something like this could happen but in this day and age, we have to expect the unexpected; nothing is sacred and no life is safe. If I may ask, what action is it that you wish the Council to take? If the person who laid down the poison were to be aprehended, arent there already laws and fines in place for animal cruelty such as this? |
It's sickening. The council should at least put up notices to warn people of the risks of walking their dogs in the park. All the details are on the petiton site.:) |
