Is my Yorkie pregnant or just getting a little chubby? **Keep in mind that my Yorkie has had puppies in the past, so that is why her tits are out like they are. I am not one of the owners who are excited, I DON'T want her to have puppies.** Alright, judging by these photos, do you believe my Yorkie is pregnant? The only reason that makes me think she is, is because she got a little chubby. The reasons that I think she is [not] pregnant, is because her stomach is not hard, she acts like herself, has not lost/gained appetite, she still runs and jumps and all that, and her tits are the same size as they were about 2 years ago. She was being lethargic for about a day and a half, but I think it was because of the sudden change of food (we changed her food) or maybe she caught a stomach bug from one of the dogs at Petsmart (she started acting sick after we got home). The only indication, like I said, is that she got a little big. I cannot get an ultrasound done because my mother will not spend money on one, and I cannot get her Spayed to abort the litter, since my mother will not have that done either. Judged based on these photos, what do you think?: >Overhead View Of Her Body< 100_2904 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! >Stomach< 100_2909 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! >Side View< 100_2906 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! She went into heat by the end of October, and I do not know if my mothers male had gotten to her. If he did, now would probably be day 35-40 after mating. Shouldn't she be bigger, and showing more signs if he did get to her? **If he got to her, it would have only been once.** |She also has not gotten the same amount of exercise she normally does, due to my irresponsibility (which will change now). And she has been getting fed a few too many treats by my family. So I'm thinking she just got chubby off them.| |
i can see a bit of a belly on her- but don't know how she is usually built... and my girls teats are Never that big after their post litter heat- they shrink back down a fair bit more than your girl. it could also be a phantom... you Need to get her scanned- scanning isn't a luxury, its necessary! and from your description of her, she may well be carrying a singleton- you've read all the risks involved with whelping an unexpected singleton? its something i've thankfully never had to deal with. if you do not have the funds for a scan (its £30 here, so maybe $50 there?) then i'm worried about her pre and post natal care- and what if she needs a c-sect? talk with your mum, tell her you will pay her back in instalments for the scan; if she refuses, can you ask an aunt, uncle, cousin, sibling, grandparent- or ask your vet to let you have a little credit with them (a lot of vets would be understanding of her situation). what size is your mums dog? |
Are you under 18? Is this a family dog, or your dog, or your mom's dog? If you are a child in your home then I understand that you have very little say in what is happening. All you can do is talk to your mom and try to get her to see how important it is to get your dog to a vet for a full examination. It sounds like you love your girl. Please advocate for her to get proper care. Good luck. |
Oh my, if there is a possibility of her being pregnant, she needs extra care. Do ask someone to help with the cost. I hope everything works out well... |
Hi. I saw from your profile you dog is about 5 years old. She is getting up there to be getting pregnant/giving birth. For her health, she should really be getting spayed after this latest scare is dealt with. Is there a reason your mother will not spay her? I also think at her age she should probably have a trip to the vet. Do you have a job, allowance, any money of your own that you could help her with if your mother does not want to help? |
I do hope she is not pregnant, but as others have said, she NEEDS a vet visit to determine this and for her own safety. If it turns out she is not pregnant, you should have your mom look into a low cost spay program in your area (partners with the ASPCA). Here is the search link; I hope if she's not pregnant this will be your (and your mom's) next step. Good luck. ASPCA | Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Programs |
Your girl really should be examined by a vet. Some infections after heat can mimic early pregnancy and can be life threatening, and I believe the older she gets the more prone to these infections she becomes. For her sake, you should know for certain one way or the other and a vet is the best way. |
