Coat Type So quick question....... Gizmo will be 8 months old for Christmas. I think he is a silky coat. From what I have read. We got him at 4 months, from someone on Craigslist looking for a new home for him cause there kids lost interest after 2 weeks. Now he is happy and playful. Anyway his coat is staight, and seams silky, but when I brush him I do get cottony "fur" or is this just puppy coat. When do they loose there puppy coat. Gizmo & Jenny |
The transition from puppy coat to adult coat happens as the puppy turns into an adult, generally at around one year. Depending on genetics, this can happen sooner or later for each individual. It can take from 3 to 5 years to see the full adult coat. That said, Yorkies do not shed. Actually they do shed technically, they just do not drop hair all around the house. The hair that ends up in the brush is hair that has been shed, but remains in the coat until it is brushed out. |
