Does your yorkie do this? I am just wondering if anyone's yorkie does this? When I walk sometimes sonic will playfully grab the back of my heel, so I stop and tell him no! well it don't help lol. It is kinda like a sheep dog herding |
Katie Scarlett hasn't done this so far. She usually likes to run ahead of us in the house and hide for us to find her. She loves to hide under the bed. Sounds like Sonic is wanting to play with his Mommy. I am really not sure on how you could curb this habit? What if you did that leash training where you have a short leash (like 4 foot) and attach it to your belt buckle. I think it's called umbilical training. Then everywhere you go, he has to go. Start guiding him to walk with you at your left. Then after a while he will naturally always walk beside you like you want. I read this in a dog training book before we got our Katie Scarlett. We do the umbilical training with her some, but she has got to where when she is not in her 'hide and seek' mode, she will walk right with us. I'm not sure if it's just her nature or the training that did it, but she is good about walking with us. Good luck to you! I'm sure these old pro's on YT can help more than I. I am still learning a lot of this stuff! Tee hee! :) |
I will have to try the umbilical training, might help with his pulling on the leash when i take him outside also. Thanks for the information. |
Chewie used to do this when he was young--dang, those little puppy teeth are sharp!! He'd nip my ankles and play tug-of-war with my pants legs--it became a real problem. When it happened, I'd try to distract him with a suitable toy (I also made sure to have lots of chewy toys around). If he kept going for my leg, I'd immediately put him in puppy time-out behind a baby gate and ignore him for just a few minutes. Thankfully, it pretty much subsided by the time he quit teething. |
Rizzo doesn't bite my ankles or anything, but he does occasionally "bump" me if I walked by him when he was trying to get my attention on a toy he wants me to throw. Usually by the time I turn around to see what just bumped me he's already back at his toy waiting for me to play. lol. |
When Callie was a puppy she was bad about grabbing on to feet when someone was walk and almost tripped a few people so we got squirt bottles and put them in every room and would squirt her and say no when she did it and it worked great. |

Sunny, at times, likes to chase our feet...the squirt bottle is an excellent idea.....i think she wants our socks or shoes, but dang it, they are still attached to our feet......hellooooooo! Bobbi |
I think Harry thought my feet were a pair of rats.....:D Sally + Harry x |
Bailey used to do this a lot, and when she REALLY wants to play, she still will! Not a big problem for us because it's only occasional, but I know those puppy teath KILL your ankle. I would stop and say NO! In a stern voice. Sometimes Bailey has those nights were she is really really tired but is too lazy to go to her bed, so she will just walk around next to me in the kitchen. But she is half a sleep standing up and she doesn't move when we walk, and we bump into her... she gets kinda startled. It's cute... I know that story didn't really relate, but bumping. I thought it was cute:) |
thanks for the reply guys, Sonic he has alot of toys, I even bought a little basket to put his toys in, so when he wants a toy he goes digging in the basket for his toys, if only i can train him to put his toys back in the basket lol. |
lol. bailey bumps me all the time. i look at him and say: "whusupwidat?" |
