New Introduction! I want to introduce myself and tell our story. We have had a terrible ordeal. We bought two 7 week old female Yorkies ( 24.5 oz and 23 oz) from a breeder Nov 1st. Bought them on a Sat. and fell head over heels in Yorkie Love! My 2 teenage daughters were in heaven. One of the puppies would not eat, thought it was just to the new environment and the move. I syringe fed her on the Sat. and Sun. and she was very weak and would not move around. When we bought them, we were told they were healthy and calm sweet puppies. I took both babies to our VET on Mon. morning. He examined them and told me that one girl had a huge heart murmur, elevated heart rate and ear mites. He suggested I call the breeder and return the puppy ASAP. Told me to take the puppy to the breeder before she died in my care. The 2nd baby also had a very slight heart murmur which the VET said could be normal and she also had ear mites. He spoke with the breeder and she agreed to meet me and take the puppy back. I drove 50 miles to immediately return the puppy. We kept the other little girl and made her ours. The next 2 weeks she was well, ate and played like she should and we were smitten. She started with a cough and I took her again to the VET and she was dx. with Kennel Cough. Since she had never left our home, the VET said she probably was exposed at the breeders. She seemed to be doing so well with the cough and played and ate great. Then, the unthinkable happened. The Sun.after Thanksgiving she started having difficulty breathing. Mon. AM we took her to the VET and she was said to have advanced pneumonia. She stayed at the VET hospital on IV fluids, O2 and antibiotics from Monday morning to when she passed away on Wednesday night. We are so heart broken you can't imagine the pain we are feeling. The VET said she was just too little to overcome the pneumonia. After paying for two Yorkie female puppies and several VET visits and then the hospitalization we have spent over $2000, I could have bought a Show Quality Yorkie for the money spent. I found this site while researching Yorkie illnesses. I know I should have been more knowledgeable before purchasing such tiny little things but we where all in PUPPY LOVE! I am looking for another Yorkie as I have wanted one since first seeing a Yorkie almost 25 years ago. I just wanted to tell my story, I know it is not a pleasant introduction. I am trying to find an honest, truthful breeder to help us find our Yorkie. |
Good morning Carla, and welcome under such terrible circumstances :) I just want to say, I'm so terribly, terribly sorry that you've had to go through all of this - those poor little babies, and your family too. My heart really goes out to you. What a complete, tragic nightmare for you all. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Sally x |
How awful that you had to go through this and I am very sorry, for the sweet puppies and for your family. It sounds like someday you will be ready to love another little one again. I suggest petfinder, if you want to rescue a Yorkie, or YTCA if you want to find a reputable breeder. Hope you will check out both sites. |
So very sorry. You really have to read alot about a breeder before you buy. As people say on this forum, you are buying the breeder also. How old were the babies. They should have been at least 12 weeks old. I have not been on this forum very long, but am amazed at the number of messages I have read about terrible breeders. You can find alot of information here. As the saying goes, Knowledge is power. Again, I am so sorry for your loss and hope you can find a healthy puppy and a great breeder. |
I'm so sorry for you loss and feel sorry that you had to go through all of this...I got Prissy at 8 weeks and she is doing fine, I have read so many stories like yours and it just breaks my heart...(((HUGS))) |
i´m so sorry for your loss this is so sad. I hope u will find a good breeder and a new Yorkie to love that is not sick  I don´t understand how ppl can sell or breed puppy´s that they know will be sick or even die  |
I am very sorry that you and your family went through ths tragic situation. This makes me SO mad at the horrible breeder (greeder) you got them from. Thank you for being willing to share your story...it might help someone else not make the same mistake. It really is so important to find a reputable breeder...one who puts the puppy's needs and health before anything else. I wish you the very best in finding a great breeder and a healthy Yorkie. Please continue to read and learn as you search. |

Oh this is so sad. I am so sorry for the loss of your little furbaby. I pray you find peace in your heart and a new, Healthy, Yorkie baby. |
I am so sorry to hear this....Here in Mass it is illegal to sell ANY puppy under 8 weeks old. |
I'm so sorry for your tragic loss...those poor, poor babies. Please stay on YT - there are so many knowledgable owners and breeders on here. You will find all the help you need. |
Very sorry to read this. There was a story this morning on The Today Show about something similar to this and several of the buyers received their money back as well as medical expenses. While that won't erase the pain you've gone through, it might be worth trying. The Credit Card companies reimbursed the buyers for the sick puppies, but the company paid for the medical. If you want a purebred show dog type yorkie, there are several folks here with reputable breeders. Again, so sorry your family endured this and hopefully you will find the love of another yorkie soon. |
I am so sorry for everything that happened. It sounds like you got your puppies from a bad breeder. They must not have been living in good conditions to have ear mites as well as the fact that yorkie puppies should not leave there mothers until 12 weeks. I hope you find a healthy yorkie puppy to love. Before you get a puppy again I would definitely go to the breeders house see the parents and the conditions the puppies are living in before you buy. Also any breeder who uses the word teacup and wants to give them to you before 12 weeks walk away from. Welcome to YorkieTalk. |
So sorry for you lose and how sad for the yorkie babies too!!! I am new to YT also, and everyone has been so warm and welcoming. I am certain you will finds loads of information and support here. |
I am so sorry you went through this |
