Prissy is very hyper... Honestly at times she acts possessed, she is the most hyper dog I have ever seen, it is no wonder that she eats really well. Is this normal or somewhat normal? LOL My sister said that she heard that boy yorkies are calmer...am I doing something wrong? |
oh and you gals were talking about them running about super fast as zooming, well she did that this evening... |
Any advice ??? I have read that some are hyper active and that I just need to play more with her..we play several times a day, anything else? She hates being brushed but I do it daily,,,LOL I want to be a good mommy to my new baby. She is doing great with the housebreaking but I am doing the crate method, that is what I did with Yoshi, my peke. |
Yes, they can be super hyper as pups. SO much energy in that tiny little body to burn off! Not sure how old she is, but this should improve as she gets older. I found the single most important thing for controlling the "hypers" and "zoomies" when Rocco was a puppy was at least one long walk a day, preferably two (EVERY day). Playing is good for releasing physical energy, but the walk also satisfies their emotional needs and mental curiosity and is a great calming exercise. |
Another thing that is really great for them if you have it available is doggy daycare. Rocco started going at around 6 months, just occasionally. Now he averages a full day about once every week or so, and it's really great for exercise, but also excellent for socialization which is very important to do early on. Again, it satisfies and stimulates them emotionally, which helps channel the physical energy. |
I think it's normal, but maybe that is because Pita is pretty much the most hyper dog I have ever seen, LOL! People just laugh because she is so squirmy when they try to hold her or she is constantly jumping up in your face licking you. She runs and jumps on the back of our recliner every time hubby walks by....she is nonstop all over the place. She just made 10 months and she does seems to calm down a little sooner at night than she used to. She will lay by me more often vs running and jumping all over me. I do think they will slow down with time but some will always have more energy than others. I think Pita has so much personality because of her energy level, LOVE IT and HER! :) |
I can't speak for really young pups, but Bailey at around 9 months is still hyper. He has this duck he loves! I mean loves! So we spend as long as he'll chase it throwing that duck. He will literally fetch it, bring it back and fetch it for the longest time. He hops and jumps to it and runs it back. He sleeps well at night! |
I bet the good walks will help a lot to she gets a little older. It makes a lot of difference. |
Katie Scarlett gets a major case of the zoomies right before bed. I have got to where I let her run as much as she wants and then we play with her toys for a bit. Then when she is winding down, I do a short training session practicing what we are learning at puppy kindergarten. All of this tires her out and she falls to sleep the minute I put her in her big girl bed. She then sleeps through the night. This has worked so far for us. |
She honestly sounds totally normal to me!!! :D Harry's actually calmed down quite a bit since he hit one year if that's any help....but then he loves playing with other dogs (the bigger, the better for him!!) and that is really what wears him out - far more than I ever could! :) Sally + Harry x |
She sounds normal to me ;). Sophie has mellowed (slightly:p) in the last year but still zooms a lot. We take her for at least one walk everyday to burn some energy then she takes a nap for round two :D |
2 Attachment(s) Thank y'all very much..I will take her for walks when her shots are complete. So glad that she is normal, Well yesterday i played so much with her and it did help so much..I told my husband that we are going to take turns playing with her, LOL.
