how do you research a breeder? I purchased my Yorkie/Maltese puppies from a breeder 3 yrs ago. i am considering buying a Yorkie from them. I agree about the puppy mill thing. I don't want to give my money to a puppy mill. I hope they aren't one! Are we allowed to post breeder names on YT to see if anyone else is familiar with them? I would like to post the name to see if anyone here knows them. |
What I did was googled the phone number of the breeder, the email address of the breeder and the breeders name as well as what they named their breeding business. Google shows you so much past and present. |

If a breeder is breeding mixes, it doesn't really matter how many people love her, it shows she hasn't studied the problem or the breeds involved. You CANNOT predict the results if you breed a mix. You don't get the best qualities of each, you might get the worst, and everything in between. Breeding different breeds together can create a grooming nightmare. Early breeders created certain breeds to do certain tasks, they created a standard so that people would have a good idea what the adult dog would look like and how it would behave, in other words, they could "predict" the looks, size and behavior of an adult dog. Why is this a great thing? Because all puppies are adorable, but some people fall in love with a puppy, and then they don't like how it looks or behaves as an adult, so they dump it. The pounds are filled with mixes and for someone to purposely breed for them is unconscionable. Don't buy from a breeder who is trying to earn a living from dogs, but from a breeder who LOVES the breed and has studied the problems with the breed. A good breeder can be a lifetime friend. |

I agree with Nancy but post her website. I bet she hasnt did any health testing and I bet she doesnt have a good health guarantee. I didnt know this was the breeder that breeds the mixes. The puppy is cute but you are also buying the breeder. |
I would say ask the folks here on YT (and your local Vets. & groomers) if they know of a good breeder, then contact those breeders and ask if they would give you names of the Vets. they take their dogs, and numbers of those who have bought from them. Background checks are so important, not only for the breeder, but for the buyer as well. ;) |
