Yes, I definitely thought about that too, and idk how that would work out, but as long as the dog can get out of the living conditions its in I'm happy... Even if I can't bring him/her home. It would be nice if I could keep it though.

I wonder if they would even notice. I do have a fenced in yard and the only time they would see us is on our walks... But then again I don't want to feel like I'd be hiding the dog.. I'm going to have to think long and hard about this.

I would definitely contact animal control first. You never know how neighbors are going to be.

There really shouldn't be anything to think about. You cannot take the dog. That is not only illegal. There is the risk of retribution and you don't want to put your little one at risk. Some people can be very dangerous and have been known to throw poisons over fences to get back at people and you do not want to take that risk should they find out. It isn't worth it.

Without reading this whole thread I'll just drop my 2 cents...

Take picture & video, feed & water the dog turn them in to authorities-continue documenting it until the authorities do something about it.

Give the authorities copies retain originals-make it an issue.

That poor baby.
It's so sad to think that the little one is chained up outside, apparently no food, water or love by the owners. How terrible that it knows no real love.
My heart breaks for that little dog.

You're right, I slept on it... I think it would just be best if I call animal control and let the dog go to a loving home as far away from these people as possible.

I'm just now seeing this thread. All I have to say is this: PLEASE call AC today....right this second. The dog needs rescued right away. The debate about what to do after you call can be decided later...but right now that poor dog is cold, hungry, thirsty, and neglected. Please call and get this dog some help.

Just realized your first post was only yesterday...at first I thought this had been going on for days. Sorry for my abruptness...but I still think you should call right away. And bless you for caring enough to do the right thing.

Its ok, Since my last post I've contacted AC and they were there around 9:15ish.... I didnt see them take the dog (I was peeping through my window)... so When they left I called them back and told them that I was the one who called about the dog, and I wanted to know if anything was being done about it. The lady told me (after some persuading) that the people begged to keep the dog. So AC told them they would give them a week to improve the health and living conditions of this dog. They would also have to provide a vet bill, and a note written from the vet saying the dog is UTD on shots and any health issues that need to be taken care of. If this isnt done then they will be back to take the dog. And the lady also told me to keep a watchful eye just in case the dog is still living outside...

Well, since their visit they have put the dog inside the house... But I still feel as though they shouldn't get a second chance.

I understand that feeling. I really do. Keep your eyes open. Hopefully they will change their ways now. Maybe this was an "eye opening" experience for them.

that is what it is customary for them to do. Thats what our neighbors had to do when animal control came out. At least they will have to get the dog vet checked and treated and they know they cant get away with treating a dog like that.

Yea, and I THINK even if they do get the dog checked and get the note as well, AC will still check up on them from time to time.

They probably wont have the money to get the dog current on shots in that time frame and animal control will come back and take the dog. I watch animal cops on animal planet and that happens all the time

That is what I would do as well. I am surprised they begged to keep it. Especially since they were not treating it well. But at least it will be warm tonight. And it is all because of you. :) I would think they would clean it up too since it will be inside. Here I am using "it" too. Ha ha.

I feel like you've done the best thing. I know you wouldn't want to put yourselves (including your little dog) at risk. There have been some really horrible things happen to other people. I just wanted you and your little one to be safe. Since you didn't know these people, you have no idea what they are capable of doing. I'm glad you called and I hope things work out the best for this little dog. That is such a sad story and I understand your feelings 100%. I hope there is a happy ending for the little one.

I watch that show too. But if they don't have the money, at least AC will take it, and give it PROPER care.

Hahaha, We can just call "it" a her lol. I am too (surprised)!! But I'm glad she is inside as well. And they have to clean her up its apart of the deal AC made with them.

Good for you. So happy you took steps to take care of this poor baby. So many times people see things like this and think it's none of their business, and do nothing to help these poor, defenseless little babies. You are this little baby's hero!

Exactly, but it is our business to speak up the ones that can't speak for themselves. By doing this we can save lives (not just animal lives human lives as well). And I couldn't bare it if I knew what was going on and did nothing about it. Thank-you for such kind words!! :)

I can't believe your animal control comes out on a Sunday morning!!! What a difference in service is depending on where you live, huh?

Our local Animal Control is closed on the weekend. And if you do make a call on Monday, don't expect them to be out before the end of the week.

Oh, wow that is horrible!! Our AC is open 7 days a week, and they are really good about getting to places really fast! I am so greatful for them!!

I would call animal control. I don't know about where you live but in our town they will go out and give a ticket for not even having a dog house out for the animal even if it is an inside dog. So I bet they would go out for this case for sure. Then your neighbors wouldn't know it was you who called. Sorry if some one else posted this i didn't read the other's .

It's ok.. I already called they have a week to better the living conditions and health of the dog. They have to provide a vet bill and a letter from the vet saying its UTD on shots and any health issues. If these requirements arent met AC will be back to take the dog. SInce their visit the people have taken the dog inside the house.

When I retired I couldn't just sit around. So I got involved with the local Dog Shelter and Home Visits with Seniors. I work with elderly Alzheimer patients. I am so humbled, and blessed by both.
Dogs and Old people are 'my thing'. I defend, help and educate every chance I get. I think if we have been blessed in our life ( and we all have) We must give something back, it is the only way to change things that are not good.
Like my Granny said "Just complaining about something and doing nothing about it is sin. God gives us all a TALENT (gift, understanding, or ability) It is up to us to find a place to use it. If we don't, God will want to know why we didn't use our talent. Just like the story Jesus told about the three servants."
