New Yorkie member saying hello & a bit of a disturbing story. Hi everyone, nice to meet you all! This whole love for Yorkies began right before Thanksgiving. About a week ago, I saw a small Yorkie drinking from a pond in the middle of the street. He was trembling and very skinny. I picked him up and drove to the nearest pet store to buy some holistic food after hearing good things about it. I took him home, fed him and he was a happy camper...jumping up and down and happy to be with a human. I weighed him and he was 3.5 pounds. I noticed he had a phone number on his collar. I called and nobody answered. The next day also provided no answer. So I left a message this time...nobody returned my call. A few days later, I searched and spotted a "Lost Yorkie" ad online on a famous site (not sure if I can write it here). It fit his description and had his name which matched his collar. It also said $1500 reward for return of the 1 year old Yorkie. I called the number and indeed it was theirs. The guy didn't sound heartbroken in the least bit and simply said he paid $4k for his Yorkie and that his little kids miss him. He went on to say he bought him from a Yorkie site where all the stars purchase Yorkies and they normally sell for $6k. He gave his address and I said I'd drive over. I drove all the way over to this person's house which was the biggest house I've ever seen. The guy greeted me while on his cell phone and had practically no reaction except an arrogant smile on his face. He said he ran away before and that he paid a lot of money for him. He didn't ask about his well-being nor how he was doing these last few days. I told him I called the number on the collar. He responded by saying he forgot to change it. I asked if he was microchipped. He said no and said he bought the Yorkie for his little kids and that he paid $2k for it (bear in mind, he said $4k over the phone). He then said and I quote "Thanks...you made my kids' day," almost forgot to shake my hand, and said he has to finish a call. And proceeded to go back inside his house. I am so distraught that a person can be so cold-hearted and to buy a Yorkie simply to show off. Besides his $1500 promised reward which he made no mention about over the phone nor in person, he showed practically no emotion and no gratefulness. I fell in love with the little guy. Had this person shed even 1 tear, I would not care about the promised reward. But at this point, I feel like a true sucker driving all the way out to this mansion to bring his Yorkie back after taking care of him for nearly 5 days. I just wanted to share my story here. This is what brought me here and my love for Yorkies now. I would love to find a Yorkie puppy as I simply fell in love with the little guy. It was a painful little start. But thanks for reading and at least I'm glad I found this site. I'll be checking out the for sale/adoption pages now regularly :) |
wow Interesting story.....as for me i just got a yorkie puppy for mydaughter, had her for 3 weeks and i am deeply in love with the little one.. |
Wow. You probably gave that pup the best 5 days of his life. Sorry for your bad experience. You did a good thing. I hope someone in that family actually loves the dog. |
Poor baby, to have a heartless owner. Probably just another gift for his children. Breny on YT has a male for sale named Tanner. Not sure which thread it was I just read. |
Wow. That's terrible! I hate people who flaunt how much their dogs cost but pay no mind to the actual DOG. I have a friend who has expensive cats she brags that they are worth thousands but they live in cages. It's so upsetting. I feel very bad for that little yorkie. |
I'm so sorry. That is a sad story. Yorkies are just the best little dogs in the world and deserve so much more than that guy. All dogs do. Make sure you read lots and find a really good breeder. Good luck to you. |
What a jerk! I would have asked for the reward and given it to humane society. Sad that people can be that ungrateful and rude, let alone so irresponsible to let his yorkie run away multiple times. Obviously he does not care for its health and wellbeing. Hopefully his kids do, and have learned a lesson by now. |
That was disturbing. I hope you find the little Yorkie love of your life and keep us posted here on YT. |
Awww poor baby!!! You did what you thought was right! I hope you find a baby of your own! |
Poor little thing! I hope you can find a Yorkie of your own to love and cherish. |
I agree with Mike. It was probably the best five days of that little guy's life! You sound like me. I get so attached to these little one's so quickly and then I'm broken-hearted to return them. It's so hard to return them to a home where they are not loved and properly cared for. I hope you do find a special little yorkie that you can love and give a good home. |
Welcome to YT. You did that baby a great big favor for sure. Sounds like that little guy is nothing but a toy to the kids and probably isn't even getting fed regularly. You know if he did advertise a reward, you can save that ad and actually get your money from him legally. I hope you find your Yorkster kid real soon. ;) |
Welcome to YT. That is so sad that his owner was a jerk. You did the right thing, but I know it probably doesn't seem that way. It sounds like he would have been shown a lot of love with you. I hope you find a yorkie soon. |
I hope that you find your own Yorkie soon. And I agree with another poster; make him pay that reward he posted. Self important dreg of humanity! |
What a jerk! Tell ya what, i would keep my eyes open for that lil fella again...if I found him again....he would be mine..... Bobbi Quote:

Nice story. You did the right thing. I believe things happen for a reason, and just because the guy was a jerk and didn't seem to care for the yorkie, perhaps his wife and kids do and that would be enough love. But even more, you were thrust in to this in order to find the love of a yorkie. Now it's your turn. Depending on your budget, keep your eyes open for rescues and even browse Craigslist. Your life will never be the same. |
Thank you all for your nice words. His ad was deleted. So I can't even print it out. But his kids seemed spoiled rotten and the wife was just as cold. They even told the kid holding him to say thank you for bringing him back. He just pouted and said nothing. If anyone can guide me to a good breeder, that would great as I'm now actively now looking for one for myself :) |
www.ytca.org this is a listing of all the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's breeders. they are usually the best bet in getting a standard yorkie with excellent health guarantees and a wonderful breeder to be there for you no matter what as you learn about yorkies and raising and loving them. or go rescue route and www.petfinder.com has lots of listings by area and prob has lots of yorkies of all ages for a really decent adoption fee that usually includes their shots and spay/neuter and saves money in the long run of you having to do it all yourself. either way you'll get a sweet baby. just watch out for back yard breeders BYB or greeders we call them on here. they only do it for the money and they are not breeding quality dogs with good health. they won't care about you years down the road if you need them and don't back up their dogs when something happens genetically in their health or life. make sure you always go see the breeder's home and the pups mom and dad and ask about all the health checks done on parents and guarantees on pups. GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME TO YT!! |
That is quite a story but also a heartbreaking one. I think the man should of given you the yorkie instead of bragging up what he paid for it. You would of gave it a better home who knows maybe the kids are a little rough with this tiny yorkie. Probably that is why it ran away the poor little thing. The only thing I can say is at least you were honest and you know in your heart you did the right thing. Maybe one thing you could do is go back and ask the man if they ever get tired of their yorkie you would take it and give it a wonderful home. Better yet put a letter in his mailbox. Anyways bless you for what you did and hopefully you will be rewarde for your goodness. Susan Oh Welcome to YT |

Well you earned some karma @ least. |
Help? My wife and I recently became owners of a toy yorkie. He is ten weeks old. Tucker has become family. Recently we had him treated for worms he was treated for round worms. We followed the Vets instructions when we administered his meds. In the last two or Three days he has had several seizures He has been seen by the vet and while at the Vets he had a seizure. My wife is devastated that this little guy is having seizures. Has anyone had a dog or a puppy that had seizures and if so any advice would be very helpful :animal-pa |

First your vet needs to or should have done in the least a full blood panel to check bile acid levels to check for LS (most common) and also a full blood panel to decipher environmental causes. 10 weeks old is 2 weeks too young to leave mom. Did your vet do a follow up fecal also? What was the vet's initial prognosis on the seizures-was it possibly a reaction to the de-wormer-which is very rare. The vet should have already done these tests in the office and followed up with another bile and panel a couple days later to establish a base line. |
