Can you recommend a micro chip/co. to go with I plan to get Lexi micro-chipped when she is spayed in a couple months. Is there a particular co. you would rec. to get her micro chip from? |
I read that you should call your local animal control and see what type of card readers they have, as some places only have only one card reader instead of a universal card reader. We just got the one that the vet sold, it's called Home Again, and we have been happy with it. Many of companies have started a new thing where you pay a yearly fee for special services and I think this is a waste of money, Home Again has the option for this or a onetime lifetime membership, which is what we got. Other companies have no option and you have to pay the yearly fee. We also registered his number when we registered Joey with the AKC. |
We also use HomeAgain. You can register your dog with HomeAgain even if there is a different type of chip in. I think that I read somewhere that HomeAgain is one of the most widely used chips. If your dog is registered (AKC) you can also register their chip number with them. |
Thank you SO very much. I would have never thought about contacting our local animal control center to see what kind of reader they had! That is extremely helpful. My vet doesn't sell the micro chips. I was looking at one site on line & it was $19.95 for a lifetime membership and $22.50 for the Buddy-ID kit/preloaded syringe with chip. Great tip too on registering the # with Lexi's AKC paperwork which I haven't sent in yet (glad I didn't). :) |

I like home again because it is one of the most common. The other one is Avid |
I am sorry, I wasn't clear (not unusual for me-lol). My Vet does insert the chips - she just doesn't sell them. :) We will get it inserted when she gets spayed. |
I use Home Again. My Hugo is still missing, but this company was very supportive when I lost him. Coco got chipped yesterday! |
