Yorkie sizes Hi everyone. I am hoping to get a Yorkie puppy in the next few months but I wanted to ask everyone something. How big can a Yorkie be to comfortably carry him around? I've read all about the so called "teacups" and I know that first of all, they don't exist, and second of all, they tend to have health issues. I'm fine with getting a larger Yorkie that will not have those health problems. But I really want to carry my baby everywhere I go and I just wanted to see how many of you do this and how big your babies are? Thanks for the help. :aimeeyork |
The standard calls for 7 lbs and under. Gracie's normal weight is 5 1/2 lbs and Rebel is 4.12 lbs at 6 1/2 months. I carry both around and I think their weight is fine...but it's really a preference. |
I lugged my 9 lb yorkie around over the weekend and it does start to get to shoulder after a couple of hours. |
I agree with everyone else as well. It depends on your preference. I have 3 ranging in size from 4-6 lbs. I don't dare carry them all at once. That's what my husband is for!! Ha Ha! :yorkiesar |
My Lexi is 6lbs and I carry her everywhere. She use to sit in her tote like a good girl, but now I have to wrap her like a baby and carry her. (she's not at all spoiled though) I know when we are out and people see me carrying her like a baby in a blanket they think I some wacko that nneds help. |
well my lexi is 8 months old and weighs 6lbs.. i used to carry her in a bag, but now, forget it, she would rather walk herself... she does not to be carried anymore..anyway, 6 lb is a bit to carry for a long length of time, with a pocketbook on the other.. |
Dollar is 2.3 lbs and i take him everywhere |
Probably depends on you...the person carrying the dog :D A friend of mine has a 5lb. dog and has no problem carrying her. I wanted a smaller one because I have neck issues and an extra pound in my purse is very noticable. Not all smaller Yorkies have health problems. They do require extra care and are not for everyone. They can't live in a purse  Best wishes finding your pup! |
Gucci weighs aprox 5 lbs and I carry her fine. But like others mentioned I guess it depends on the person that carries the dog. |
Thanks for the information, everyone! |
I have several so i got a stroller which is great for them and me, but when I just take one I usually either carry them or I bring a carrier. Be careful what carrier you get too because the bigger the dog the bigger the carrier and some of those carriers can get pretty heavy! My biggest yorkie weighs 4.1 lbs. and al of mine are healthy...not frail or sickly as some think. :) |
