only 6 months old - mole?!?!
 

Has anyone ever heard of a 6 month old getting a mole on the head?
he just seems too young for that...

Brew will be 6 months old on December 12. i was giving him a bath on Saturday and i noticed a skin colored mole on his head near his eye. It near the area where they have their "eyebrow whiskers" but a few inches away. there are no hairs coming out of it.

It has a 2 little pigment spots on the mole, but it's 95% just skin colored.
i have pressed on it and it doesn't seem to be hurting him at all.

i have made an appoinment for him to get checked out tomorrow, but in the mean time i've been scaring the crap out of myself by googleing.

i think it's got to be really new because i spend a lot of time staring at the little guy, and it's not that hard to see even when he is dry.

i tried to take a picture, but it won't focus properly to show it.

any thoughts!?! Time is passing sooo slowly as i wait for my appoinment :thumbdown

Good thing you have a vet appointment it could be a parasite or the beginning of an infection.

I've never heard of a dog getting a mole personally.

Growths yes, skin tags even but they are a type or virus that the dog can get frozen off and yes it spreads from dog to dog, cancer presents in the form of a "mole"

...I forgot to mention the size...
it's about the size of the end of a unpoped popcorn kernal. (the round end)

and it is perfectly round.

Awhile back someone was unsure of a growth-turned out to be a tick that was getting absorbed!

Vet will be the only one who can identify and treat it.

Thankfully just having it looked at shouldn't cost you much.

If you google "engorged tick on dog" you can see what a tick looks like that is on a a dog. Hope that is all it is.

I'm 99.9% sure it's not a tick.

It doesn't look like those pictures i was looking at. and he's not picking or itching at it all all. He lets me poke at it all i want. Its not mushy or seems puss filled.

it looks similar to a mole that i have on my own head actually!
i'll update tomorrow what the vet says. i'm going to have him take a few cells out of it to test for cancerous cells.

it's just so wierd. there are threads about every yorkie related thing i can think of on here. thats why i love yorkietalk so much. sometimes all you need is to find out that at least you are not alone out there. The only mole issues i have found are in much older dogs...it's just such a puzzler.

Oh no! Keep us posted on what the vet says. I hope he is ok!

OK the vet says that is it Histiocytoma. Which he discribed as a buildup of extra cells. it's totally common in young dogs (under the age of three)

I was really starting to panic though when i noticed that it had kind of started to scab up in places as of this morning. i then procedded to scare the crap out of myself by googleing scab + mole. i was convinced he had somehow contracted skin cancer already.

I asked about taking a sample of the cells to be sure, but he assured me it was this Histiocytoma thing. he had removed one just earlier that day from another dog.

He said the body will just take care of it but it can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 12 months. He goes in for his nuter on Jan 4, so we are just going to see what his system is going to do with it until then and then biopsy if it's not changing. It's just a timing thing.

the picture i took doesn't show anything usefull so i did a search for Histiocytoma to show anyone else that may have this issue. The pictures online were way more drastic (and NASTY) then his case. But this one wasn't too revolting.

i have since searched Histiocytoma on the forums and sure enough there are tons of stories and information i can look at and feel a little more normal. i just didn't have a clue what i was looking for before.

My husband doesn't really understanding how i feel sometimes about our little Brew.
