maggie has razor burn So I gave her a cut and it was with a razor like a brooming one. One I always use. I know when cutting her she got nicked on her belly and buthole, I shave this because poop gets stuck. Anways I just check again and she has about 10 red spaces on her belly and two on her butt, I feel so bad. I put on some infection cream and fast pain relief and now she's scratching her belly like crazy. Is she gonna die? |
I don't think she's going to die...if you are worried, take her to the vet. The only place I use a shaver is the back of the ears. I wouldn't use it on her belly or bum area because of the risk for cuts and itchiness. I use scissors. |
If she is itching after you put cream on her, then the cream is probably irritating her. Maybe you should give her a bath to get it all off. I'd get her some cream from the vet if I were you. |

Well now she's laying down and seems fine ill wash it tho |
I don't know exactly what is wrong with her. If you think her life is seriously in danger, then get her to an ER vet. |
I mean I don't think she's gonna die its just razor burn nothings bleeding, and she's not crying from it so? |
Razor burns are painful. I would put some triple antibotic cream on it and watch to make sure the clippers do not get hot or you are clipping too close. I would never clip, only use scissors around the anal area. On her little tummy too, you don't want to shave. If you can, buy you a book on grooming and it will even tell you what blade # to use and where. There is not that much clipping on a yorkie. Hope she gets to feeling better. Watch it and make sure it doesn't get infected. |

Yeah that-irritation and infection are the concerns. I too would use not only a triple antibiotic ointment but ensure it is one with a pain reliving agent or and aloe to cool the burn also. Keep her clean until it is fully healed and watch for infection. I don't use scissors, but investing in a good dog clippers is critical for their safety-also using the guard (plastic) will ensure the razor never touches her-cleaning them with alcohol before and after usage is critical. |
I use Oster and Andis and I use the steel blades. They can get hot real fast. Just use a coolant on them and even at that they still get hot fast. Razor burns can be terrible. I have to use some good clippers because we have Lexi which is our mini schnauzer. There is alot of grooming with a schnauzer plus the fact he hair is so thick its unbelievable. I have to use the Andis clipper on slow speed to get through it. I cut her accidently sometime ago and she even cried during the night. I felt horrible for her because it really hurts. Ended up having to get a prescription salve for her. |
wouldn't hurt to, after putting on the antibiotic cream, put her in a onesie. That way she won't be able to lick or worry the burned area. |
I looked this morning and there gone! |
