Diaper Bag? Hey guys! Question for you... I know the holidays are coming up. Like many, my husband and I will be traveling home to see our families. It is a 12 hour drive, but we are going to split it up into 2 days. I just cannot put Katie Scarlett in a car and drive that long. I know even 6 hours is pushing it. But we plan on driving maybe 2-3 hours at a time and then stopping at places along the way where she can get out and run around for a bit. We have already booked a room at a pet friendly hotel so she can rest and we can play more that night. I think she will do fine. I would fly, but I am not paying out the whazoo to ship all of our gifts that we take along. Plus, I want her to get used to road trips. I drive home 4-6 times per year and she will always go along. So, I was thinking about our trip today. Would a diaper bag be good for her on the road? I need some type of bag that would have compartments so I can have all of her stuff at a hands reach. I have a big bag now that I use every time that we go out, but it only has 1 main compartment and I find myself always digging stuff out to get the one thing I need. Or if you know of any other type of system I could try? I just want the travel to be easy on us all and have what she needs at reach. We do have the Snoozer car seat and have the little thing that clips onto it for her travel food/water bowls. I just was wondering what all of you guys used. Thanks so much for any help you can give me! ;) |
I have taken mine on long car trips as well and they do fine- we don't stop any more for them then we do for ourselves. I just use a regular tote bag, but a diaper bag would work too. I bring: dishes food bottled water wipes (wiping their feet when they get walked at a rest area is very important- lots of diseases and bacteria can be transferred there, also to clean up any messes) treats toys a yummy canned food (sometimes they will get picky on a trip) blankets nutri-cal their meds extra harness and leash a brush Good Luck! |
Sophie Kate goes on many road trips with us, has since she was baby. We always stop every 3 hours and take her for a walk (potty break). I always have the following with me: Water (I freeze her filtered water and use let it thaw during the trip that way it is always cold). Dry food Her Blanket Nyla bone (aka big chewy) Treats A sweater in case she is cold Extra harness and leash Her medical records with proof of current shots Doggie bags (to pick up after her) Wipes Potty Pads (for the hotel) Portable Crate I put most of her stuff in a big beach bag that I keep on the floor of the car in front of her. |
When I first got Callie I started off using a tote but it got annoying having to dig for everything so I bought a diaper bag that wasn't baby looking and then I got the pink version of this Pet Travel Bag: Petmate Travel Bag for Dog Accessories I keep dog food, medicine, extra blanket, extra leash, extra harness, extra clothing, if its cold a jacket, pop up dishes, cheerios, a comb, first aid kit, water, wipes, and nutrical. There may be more I just cant think well right now :). Some times Callie gets car sick although its not often anymore so I have a separate tote we call the vomit bag that has extra blankets, Clorox wipes, dog wipes, paper towels and plastic bags. Callie has gone on a trip where we drove from 9am to 6pm for three days only stopping for everyone to potty and to grab food and she was a puppy on that trip and did great we just look her for long walks when we where at the hotel at night plus to get her to eat we would make it a game at night. At least twice a year after that we would travel 5 hours to go see family with one potty break in the middle. |
I got a Kwigy-Bo Diaper Bag that looks just like my Kwigy-Bo Alex carrier. It is Awesome. I think I only paid $25 for it....when they were on clearance. I just checked their site but they don't have anymore of them. :( Looks like they only have 2 styles right now. Kwigy.Bo : Shop : Liv + Co- Travel Bags But, yeah, I think a diaper bag would work just Fine!! Riley does really well on road trips. :) |
May want to hold off on the food/ water until you see how she tolerates the traveling in case her tummy gets upset. |
What a great idea! I've always just used some sort of tote bag and threw all of Jackson's things in it. But now I am looking for a bag. I just browsed Etsy and they have some personalized dog bags that look cute! |
I have a black Coach diaper bag (it may be considered vintage as the baby is now 19 :D) that I use to pack ZoE's things in when we travel for a few days. The inside pockets are perfect for holding water bottles & food. I put pee pads where the changing pad went. It works wonderfully and still looks like a nice handbag. |
Couver and Khloe travel with us all the time, and I find that having all of their necessities handy makes it easier when stopping. I pack their food, poop bags, water, leashes and treats in a bag in the back seat so I can get to them while we drive. I keep the rest of their things; clothes, extra food, treats, shampoo/conditioner etc in the trunk so that when we get to our destinaion, we can just lug them in with everything else. I don't have any advice on bags as I usually just use their KB or a canvas bag that I have for them. I'm sure a diaper bag would be great to help organize her things and keep them accessible at the same time :) |
Oh wow! Thank you all so much!!! I will use this thread to help make my packing list! I really appreciate all of your input! :) |
