Switching from Potty Pad to outside 4 Attachment(s) Hi Everyone, We just got a new Golden Yorkie baby a few weeks ago. He is now 15 weeks. Calypso is pretty much totally potty pad trained. He was well on his way when we got him from the breeder and decided to continue this as a backup system for the future. I would really like him to go potty outside. Here is my problem...aside from the fact that he is still nervous outside (which we are working on) he refuses to potty out there. I have managed to get him to poop a couple times, but he won't pee. Even after being out there 10-15 min he comes in and straight to the potty pad. I was thinking of taking a potty pad outside with us to see if that helps. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Gina:) |
:) poppy was pad trained too , we wanted her to go outside :) its just a case of perservering , we just kept opening the back door and telling her to go and do a wee wee , ;) eventually it came to her , by the way , your baby is adorable ;) jill xx |

Thank you!! That's what we figure, just keep trying and he will get the hang of it. He's a very smart little dog. At least when he's inside he uses the pads. In the 3 1/2 weeks we have had him we've only had a handful of accidents.:D |
he will get the hang of it :) yorkies are very smart , when you see him go towards the pad area , just open the door and say do a wee , and just praise him loads when he does :) good luck , jill |
You can also try bringing a soiled pee pad outside so he can smell it while he's out there and start to associate that the potty area is out here too. |
We gradually moved his pad towards the door and then finally just outside the door. He had no problems whatsoever adapting to the new location and it didn't take long either. Now he just goes to the door when he wants to 'go' and we still keep a pad down for him. |

Thank you for the tips. I will try moving the pee pad a little at a time. He is a very smart little dog. I'm sure he will catch on in no time. |

Good advise.... that's what I was going to suggest. I did the same thing! And dont expect miracles over night, it takes time. Take a look at my training method on my site, it may be helpful. (training tips) Dawn's Yorkies / Yorkie Puppies / For Sale, Ohio |
Thanks everyone for the great advice!! I will give that a try and see how it goes. I think if I could just get him to pee out there once or twice and see that it was ok he will catch on pretty quick. Gina |

Harry does wee-wees and poo-poos on command now - which is handy when it's raining! Good luck! Sally + Harry x |
