teeth care Just noticed a slight yellow on my little girl Bella. I went out today and brought tooth paste and tooth brush. She will not let me get a good brushing. Any ideas on tooth care will be greatly appreciated. |
Takes a lot of time and patients. calinstarted by just chewing and licking the toothpaste off the brush and gradually worked toward a little brushing. Now I use an electric Braun tooth brush -- but it took a long time. Used to rub the tooth paste around in her mouth sometimes too. |
Jackson HATES his teeth being brushed. He is 3 years old and just had his first dental and I'd really like to avoid another for a long time if possible. So all week, I've gotten him on a routine where I am training him to come into the bathroom with me every night. I've been making it a positive experience, bring some little treats in there, and I've gradually been re-introducing the toothbrush to him. The dentist told us we couldn't brush for two weeks (he had some other oral surgery as well) so I figured I'd take the two weeks to simply get him comfortable with the process. So anyways, yes, first we started just going in the bathroom every night before last potty, now I've got him mouthing the toothbrush and he gets a click/treat. So bascially I'm desensitizing him, making in into a trick or command, and making it as fun as possible. I have faith that in another week he will allow me to give his teeth a good brushing! I also think when he sees me brushing my teeth also, it will make him want to (he's very intuitive like that, LOL). |
thanks Thanks for the response I will have patients and just get them use to it. |
Katie Scarlett is not fond of having her teeth brushed either, but she is getting better. We started from day 1 when we brought her home and we brush every night. I am trying to keep it in the routine. Right before her evening brushing, we brush teeth. I started out with letting her lick the toothpaste off the brush and she would chew at it on the toothbrush. I let her chew and kind of worked around with it in her mouth the best I could. This did not last long for us. She got to where she would lick it off and then that was it. So now my husband holds her and I gently hold her head facing me. She doesn't mind this at all, but opening her mouth is a different story. I usually have to just start with my brush and do the outsides of the teeth. She will fuss at it a bit, but then she finally gives in and lets me brush. I think being persistant is going to be the key for us. I hope I can get her to let me do it with her just sitting there. I don't use any pressure when I hold her head, I just direct her face in front of me. She does turn away from time to time, but I just keep directing her to me very gently and she finally gives in. Good luck! |
I have 5 of them to brush and all of them cept for Little Bit, will let me. He fights me tooth and nail but I always win. I do not brush every night though. The vet told me twice a week would be good. Is she wrong? Should I be brushing every night? God I will need and extra hour in the day. Lol |
Maybe using the gel you just squirk on their teeth would help. Thats alot easier and loosen the tarter. Then maybe you could get by with just brushing twice a week. Have you tried the little finger tooth brushes? They are easier too, I think. |
fourpaws makes teeth wipes you can wrap on your finger and rub their teeth, I rotate between them and brushing |
