Flossing teeth The vet and I were having a discussion about removing Mina's baby fangs,they are all 4 still in very tight and she is 11mths. She allows me to brush her teeth,,as long as I do mine first. I was looking at them the other day and decided to give flossing a try. I used one of those picks that has floss strung between the "U" shaped end. She let me! It got the crud out from between her fangs. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried this? |
I had thought about doing this too but never tried it. I'm going to give it a shot. She is good about letting me brush her teeth but the flossing may be pushing it as far as she is concerned. |
I did floss Bevos "fangs" until we finally had them removed... He actually got into the habit and didn't mind it too much... But I'm really glad they are gone now! Much easier just to brush!! (of course I work at a dental office... So I couldn't stand gunk to get stuck in between them!!):) |
My vet is not very comfortable with removing them. When I had her spayed the adult fangs were not in all of the way,so he didnt want to pull the baby ones. Now they are so tight together and the baby ones arent even a little loose that he isnt comfortable with it. So for now this is what we will be doing. |
I did this until Uni's was taken out. Used the same floss picks. She didn't really mind, tho now that it is out, its so much easier. |
I floss Ellie's teeth...rarely when I feel like it. I'm not sure it's good for her mouth to let those hang out too long though. If the vet won't do it soon, I think I'd be considering a second opinion (dog dentist maybe). |
I wonder why the vet is not comfortable doing it? I can tell Uni is so much more comfortable with her double fang gone. Food doesn't get stuck in there anymore, and her teeth were getting yellow between, not anymore. |
I think you need to get a second opinion. I don't think its good for there mouths and that the baby ones should be removed. |

Wow! I had no idea you could floss their teeth too. I cannot see Katie Scarlett letting me do this though. She is good, but still puts up a bit of a fuss while we brush teeth every night. She eventually stops fussing and just lets me finish. I am not sure she'd let me floss! LOL |

I dont think that its he wont take them out. Its more he wants to make sure that he isn't in a hurry with another surgery. It will be done,after the holidays,so we can make sure that she is the only one for the day. I was just wondering if anyone else had used floss for their dogs and am surprised at how many have. |
I think this is another reason to wait on spay and neuter sometimes. And by waiting I mean about 8 months or so. Not like Uni who got spayed at almost 4 years! LOL. My first foster was neutered at 4 months. He retained nearly every single baby tooth and he had horrible breath. I have no idea why that vet likes to do it at 4 mos I just think that is way to soon. |
Yes, my Lizzie who I just lost always let me floss her teeth. She was so good for me when I did it. |
I have a heard enough time getting them to sit still for brushing...the thought of flossing makes my head spin! Makes perfect sense, though. |
