New puppy!! I just want to say "hello" to everyone and I look forward to lots of useful information. I got a new puppy about 3 weeks ago, and she is now about 3 months old. I swore I would never have another dog after my greyhound died, but I just can't resist this little bundle of love and energy (She was a present from my husband). She is adorable, but I am having trouble house-training her. She started out on newspaper, but then I started taking her outside. I really think I confused her. I now have decided I want to paper train her because we live on a farm and she has a lot of running (away) space. I will look up this topic when I get a chance. I just wanted to say that I am so glad I found such a good site and look forward to interacting with many of you. Thank and I hope to talk with you soon. |
Hello and Welcome to YT. My dogs are trained on a peepad and to go out side both. and its so nice not to have to get up in the middle of the night to let them out. lol. Good luck in potty training your baby and Congrats on your new puppy. |
Welcome Kim. There's lots of info on this site and I'm sure you'll love the research feature above many times. :) |
I agree with training inside and outside. My neighbor's dog will only use the puppy pad. If they're outside, it waits until it can go in the house to use the puppy pad. He working hard to teach it that it is okay to pee outdoors. Mine does both ---and places he's not suppose to also. Carol Jean |

Welcome to YT, Kim and congratulations on your new Yorkie baby! I can assure you, this will be a whole new experience! :) These little darlings are runners! My husband found a wonderful trainer for Toto after she nearly gave us a heart attack running! When she is on the leash, he taught us to just remind her of the command "Stay with me" to keep her on the left and at our side. We were visiting friends on Thanksgiving [they live on about 40 acres] and I took Toto outside without her leash. She would kinda wander out of her designated area while sniffing and exploring! I was fine as long as I felt I could safely catch her .... then I looked over and she was out too far! I called to her and when she looked, I simply said "Stay with me" and she came running back!! WOW ... what a heartstopping moment! The most important thing with these little ones outside is predators ... our vet constantly reminds us to be very careful of large birds of prey and coyotes, etc. We have to constantly be on our guard to protect them. Toto is pad trained ... but she will also go outside! It just kinda happened so when she does it, we praise her just like we do when she goes on the pad! It doesn't appear to confuse her ... I suppose "when you gotta go, you gotta go!" ;) Looking forward to seeing pics and hearing all about your Yorkie baby!! :) |
