I need help with matting!!! I got my Charlie about 3 weeks ago, and have groomed him daily!!! For some reason he's matting terribly...i have tried the detangler, but it doesnt seem to help...am i brushing him wrong? I took him to the groomers, and they wanted to cut them out...UUUGGHHH!!! Any advice would be great..he is my love, but i feel like i'm hurting him daily...thanks sooo much... Charlie's Mom Wendy |
Sounds like he might have a cottony coat. I've heard that this type of coat is hard to keep up on because it matts so easily. There are some products that some people use on here (Villette could probably help you..red98vett) which will help. I hope someone else replies! Good luck! |
My Chachi has a cotton coat and something I have found that helps is to brush the hair through with the conditioner on. I brush it again after i have rinsed and put the detangler on. |
wow thanks for the advice I have never owned a Yorkie before...I love them, and will be spoiling him forever!!!! I will try, Thank you |
Same problem here. My little monster won't let me brush him without attacking the brush. The last time I took him to the groomer I asked for a trim and because of all the mats she wound up giving him a total buzz cut!! I have since been trying to comb him everyday. I distract him with a chew toy while I brush him quickly. For those of us with cottony yorkies I don't think you can totally get rid of all the mats. They are bound to happen no matter how much on top of them you are. |
Ok...I thought I was Just the only one...He doesnt attack the brush, he just looks at me with his cute face, and shakes. It does help though with Dad talking to him and petting his head, of course now I'm the bad guy!!! |
Does anyone know what shampoo, conditioner, detangler and brush work best on puppies. I too am having problems with matting on my 13 week old little girl. She's our second Yorkie, so have been trying to brush faithfully, but yesterday she was really matted. Didn't realize how bad until I started brushing. She squeaked a few times, and I felt really bad. Any tips would be most appreciated!!! |
I'm not sure what type of brush you use but you might want to get a dematting comb. The dematting comb helps to cut the mat. You can get it at most pet stores. |
I use a natural boar bristle brush, a metal comb and cowboy magic detangler. |
Name Of Conditioner Can Anyone Give A Name Of A Good Conditioner And Detaingler For Us With Cottony Pups! |
I got a dematting comb and it's wonderful! It does take a little fur with it, but much less than if you were to cut the matt our or give them a buzz cut! |
Thank you for the dematting comb idea. I will definitely look for one of those. I hate to see her lose any hair, but I just finished another brushing and combing session with Zoe, and she hates me now. Is hiding in my husband's lap giving me dirty looks. Any thoughts from others are also appreciated!! |
