Weird Obsessions?!!?

Good morning everyone!

Now this is going to sound a bit nuts - but do any of your Yorkies have weird obsessions?!

Harry has developed an obsession for my husband's Victorinox Swiss Army card!!!!! :D

He absolutely loves it when Andy takes it out, uses whatever he needs to - and then it magically slots back away inside the card like a trick!!! He sits there completely mesmerised, from a distance, by the whole process and nothing can distract him!

If it's been a while since it's been used - he'll sometimes sit and look at the drawer until it comes out again!! What on earth is that all about?!!? :)

So - obsessions anyone?! Sally + Harry x

Who knows the mind of a Yorkie. I'd love to see a video. BTW what is a Victorinox Swiss Army card - is it something like a Swiss Army Knife with all the fold out gadgets?

Chizzie has the idea that humans are clairvoyant and if she turns around in a circle the human in her presence will know exactly what she wants.

Woops, sorry! I presumed they were 'worldwide'!! :)

Yes, it's like a credit card and about half a dozen 'gadgets' slot in and out (for instance scissors, tiny penknife, toothpick etc). It's really, really clever, but I'm not obsessed with it!! ;)

In that same drawer is Andy's electric shaver - and that holds the same fascination for Harry too!! Sally + Harry x

Wylie's Mom 11-12-2011 07:06 AM

Over the years, Wylie will suddenly let go of old obsessions and then will just randomly start a new one - it just dumbfounds us.

One of the main ones he started about 1.5 years ago was needing 2 socks to go to bed each night. So now, every night, I get in bed and read...and Wylie sits on the floor next to my bedside and stares at me, waiting for the socks. Once I'm warm in the bed, I take off my socks and drop them on the floor. Wylie picks them up and walks 6ft in a certain diagonal direction, turns around and walks back, (and may repeat this walking several times), then jumps up onto the bed w/ his socks - paces just a bit, then very gently "places" his socks, then taps them a few times w/ his nose to get them 'just so', and then he lays down w/ them to cuddle and settle in for sleep.

He won't even settle at night now without his dose of socks! He is so quirky. And we love it.

When he used to eat kibble, he always wanted us to "fluff" his kibble around 8pm. In other words, there would be kibble sitting around the bowl at all times -- but in the later evening, he would go sit by his bowl and whine/chirp bc he wanted one of us to pick up the bowl and 'fluff' (move around) his kibble and exclaim (ooh/ahh) over it, and then put it down -- and then he'd have his evening kibble snack. Every night, he wanted that fluff.

You've really, really made me laugh :D !!

I can picture the sock scenario - and as for oooh-ing and aaah-ing over a bowl of kibble - well........:yelrotflmBrilliant! And we do it!! Sally + Harry x

Obsessions ? YES ! I will try to make this story short (not likely is it LOL) Anyway...
As you know Gracie is a rescue and she came with a lot of problems. She had never played with a toy. When the other doggies played, barking and zooming around the house, she cowered behind my legs. I would toss the squeaky Kong balls for them and she never showed the slightest interest.
Gracie and me were in my craft room. (I couldn't leave her in another room because she would panic. She would throw herself against the gate screaming and urinate in terror. Bloody her face trying to chew her way to me.) Back to the story, where was I ? Oh, I was in my craft room sewing a fleece blanket back onto a quilt I made for my Granddaughter. The fleece was bright pink. When I trimmed off the excess fabric, Gracie picked up a strip of the fleece, and pawed at it, chewed it, then tossed it into the air. It was her first toy. I watched her covertly. I took a strip of the fleece and made several candy bar sized little pillows (no stuffing just layers of cloth). I had two squeakers and tucked them inside of two. I casually let them drop to the floor. Gracie sniffed them and choose one. She settled down for a little nap with her chin on her new 'Pink Baby'. I added black thread, eyes, nose and smiley. Gracie now had custom made by Mama, toys of her very own. When we left the craft room she carried her Pink Baby. (I really am trying to get to the end, but you know how I just go on and on and on) At first she would hardly put Pink Baby down to eat. After a few days she began to bury it under her blankie, in her crate. She sleeps with Pink Baby. If she takes a nap or is stressed she brings Pink Baby with her, to my lap. Gracie will not share Pink Baby with the other doggies. I have made this same Pink Baby at least 20 times over the last 2 years LOL. Gracie loves them to pieces. So that is what we call Gracie's Pink Baby obsession. :)

chachi 11-12-2011 07:31 AM

The only thing Chachi really obsesses about is his humpy bear. Hes had it since he was a young pup his breeder gave it to us and he has to know where it is and it has to be accessable to him at all times. I have put it way up on a toy pile before not thinking and he will whine for it. Same thing if he takes it outside and leaves it he will whine for it and we will have to open the door and tell him to go get his humpy.

Harrysmum 11-12-2011 07:35 AM

Oh but that is such a wonderful story!!!! You are so, so kind. You've rescued her in so many ways. God bless you :) Sally + Harry x

Maci has an obsession with my husband if he is nekked... she tries burying him!
Not that he walks around nekked a lot haha, but he works long hard days and will be exhausted and dirty after work so he'll shower, dry off, and plop down on the bed to rest til supper is ready. Then gets up, throws on sweats.
It never fails that Maci will go in and try to bury his manhood! The last time she did this she dragged a baby blanket from her dog bed to cover it!

I know, totally gross, maybe even slightly inappropriate! But she is OBSESSED. I noticed last few times he showered he put on sweat pants hahahaha. Maybe she just thinks he should be more modest :P

She also has an obsession with dragging her toys out, she doesn't even like to play with them, but she'll drag them all out, leave them for about an hour, then she'll start taking them and "burying" them in one of her dog beds haha. She viciously digs and growls into the bed, places the toy, and noses it to "cover" it... then onto the next. Until they're all out of sight haha.

No, not gross, not inappropriate - just so funny!!! :yelrotflmHow about a fig leaf for Christmas?!!!? Sally + Harry x

hahaha, yeah my husband is a man for sure.
no shame what-so-ever.
he usually is too tired to even care that Maci is desperately trying to burying and cover that... THING. I honestly think it just freaks her out!

I think Wylie wants to come live at my house. I love quirky pups.

kdhawks 11-12-2011 08:45 AM

Levi is OBSESSED with writing utensils. We cannot leave pens, pencils, highlighters, or even paintbrushes lying around because he will steal them, chew them, toss them around like toys, and then hoard them under my bed. We say he's working on his memoir.

He is also a compulsive licker. It's one of the weirdest self-calming rituals ever, but it works for him. He'll get really excited about something, run around and yip, and then find something to lick. One of his favorite things to lick is a dog bed we have in the living room...he never actually gets in it and sleeps, but he spends quite a bit of time each day licking it.

I must say that my son Coco has a very weird obsession with Seltzer water bottles! He loves collecting them and will bark/whine if he sees one and is not easiy asscesible to him. He does not like regular water bottles! But he knows that he will only get a bottle unless he is highly supervised! Another thing (very gross I might add) is he obsession with feminine napkins! Since he is a resuce yorkie that was always locked in a bathroom prior to coming to my forever home, I can only assume feminie napkins were the only "toys" he was exposed to! I am trying to change that with him! Great post
