Shes a girl not a boy! I find it funny that my boyfriend is more bothered when people call Lilo a boy than I am. He felt so offended today when we were having lunch and someone called her a "he" and asked if he was a boy. It happened 3 times today and each time my boyfriend kept getting upset. He didn't show it of course but each time after he left he would look so frustrated and complain. I would just laugh and then he would stop the conversation there. He said he didn't want anyone to call his little girl a boy. I find it so funny how secretly attached to her he is. I'm not even sure if he notices it yet... but he did eventually have me put on her pink sweater to end it there. how does everyone else feel about this topic? I personally do wish people would know Lilo was a girl by just looking at her but i also understand how some people can't really tell. I have been buying her more pink things to help hint at people especially since her blue harness hasn't been really helping her despite the pink leash :p. |
I think people just don't think sometimes. Several times Heidi's had a girlie girl dress on & they'll be talking to her & petting her, and look up at me "is it a girl?" i'm thinking, well duh, she does have a dress on! |
Aw the boyfriends and husbands have a place in their heart for our babies!! People always call Pnut a girl. |
That is a common problem and people often think my Jewels is a boy |
Just the opposite here.... My boys get called a girl everywhere we go... They have boy clothes, but its the bow that gets them mistaken!! (even though they are "manly" bows!! Lol) |
I dont mind it much when they call her a boy i usually just correct them but JoeJoe used to always be called a girl also and the BF never seemed to really care. He never really payed much attention. But with Lilo its different. He was outraged to say the least. LOL I find it sweet how men go soft for little babies but i never knew the same think works for furbabies too! |
Ultimately, you learn to live with it. Kaji has been referred to as a she from the day he came home. I use to keep him in a puppy cut to help show he was a boy. It didn't help. He wears lots of blue, skulls, and other "boy" things and he is still referred to as a she. I gave up and went with what makes me happy. I finally let his hair grow. I love men with facial hair and my yorkie boy is no exception. ;) He doesn't mind the topknot either. I call it his ninja knot or his Sasha Vujacic look. :D He's still very much a ladies man. :) One of Kaji's bff's, Missy, is constantly being mistaken for a boy. She wears lots of pink too! |
Maggie is always referred to as a boy, pink harness, pink leash and all. One woman who asked if she was a boy, said she should of been able to tell by the hips that she was a girl, women always get the big hips. |
People always refer to Roxie as a "he"...despite her pink collar, pink tag, pink harness, and pink leash. Even my parents, after 2 years, still sometimes say "he" when referring to her. |
I think that some people just think of all dogs as boys.... It doesn't bother me anymore if people get it wrong. Belle has a pink leash and always has a pink hairtie or barrette in her hair and usually it's obvious that she's a girl so we haven't run into many people thinking she's a boy. |
Pft Kaos gets referred to as a girl by EVERYONE!! Blue harness, blue tags, blue shirt. I know I shouldn't get as annoyed as I do, but it so a pet peeve! I would never refer to a pup in pink anything as a boy or a pup in blue as a girl. Just me though. :p |
Same with Paris, He is a boy but gets called a she. oh well. |
ive always had this problem with Millie too! and its really bugs me!! She has always had a pink collar, pink lead, pink harness and usually has a pink hoodie or coat on and people still say "awww isnt he a cute little boy!" i just look at them and say "im sorry but SHE is a girl hence why shes wearing pink!" im wondering if alot of people are just colour blind or just plain ignorant or just stupid! it really gets on my nerves!! I dont know if its just me but most dogs you can tell if they are male or female just by looking at them and their faces! urgh! outburst over lol x |
I think the whole thing is so cute with boyfriend being mad in all. I think that people sometimes don't think much into what to say when they see other peoples pets because they get so excited to see them. My husband is funny he tells me I don't really like Brandy very much because she's a girl but someone said to him man you guys should have gotten a male he says shut up thats my girl you're talking about and almost through his friend out of our apartment. funny..lol so boyfriends and husbands on the low love then more then we do..lol |
It's hard to tell just by looking at a doggy (or kitty, or most animals) what sex they are. My Dad calls them ALL "he" No matter how many times I've corrected him, he would still refer to my girls as "he". And everyone thinks my Izzy is a boy:rolleyes: Even with her pink and purple harness. Tell your bf to chill:p |
Callie gets called a he occasionally to and she has a pink collar, a pink, harness, a pink leash and normally a dress or pink shirt on. With Callie it just seems like people are not using there brain so I try to laugh but it is annoying. |
People just don't think. My Kirby is always called a boy. Even if they don't hear her name. If they hear her name, then they definitely just assume she is a boy. Kirby never likes hear bows but her collar has diamonds. She used to have a pink collar but now she has a red one and a red harness. |
Coco is a boy and is often confused with a girl even though I do not put a bow on his head! So for Halloween, I dressed him up as one of Lady Gaga's Monsters! Funny thing is that was the only time people thought he was a boy-ROTFL! Gotta love it~ |
Poor Levi gets called a girl all the time. He has longer hair, but everything I ever put on him is BOY. Blue harness and collar and leash...manly clothes or jacket if he's wearing it. I think it's the hair that throws people off for him. I've gotten used to it, but it drives my brother nuts. My brother babysits Levi most days while I'm at work, and it's become his little soapbox. He's always like, "I don't know why people think all long-haired breeds are girls! Where do they think they are coming from if every Yorkie is a girl?" :p |
Boy or Girl ? Poor little Abba is almost always called she. I think it is because he is small (about 3 1/2 pounds) and has very delicate features. Even when he has his red flames shirt on, that says HOT STUD, people still say 'She is so cute'. So I just smile and say thanks. |

LOL! It's the same with Katie Scarlett! I get asked all the time. I mean she always has her hair up in a cute clip/bow/band, a pink harness, a pink leash, and usually a pink or girly sweater/dress and I still get asked...Is it a girl? Well DUH!!!! Why would I dress a boy like that? If I had a boy, I'd put boy looking sweaters on him!!! LOL |
Despite a shaggy puppycut (we try for tangle-free but aren't too fussy about grooming otherwise), a sturdy teapot frame, and an olive-green harness, Chewie still gets called "she", and often by people who are well-acquainted with him! Lucky for them, he loves everyone he meets, regardless of what they call him. |
This thread is cracking me up, glad I'm not the only one encountering this! A few different maintenance men have been to my apt. over the last few months for a problem. Princess, in her thick, visible pink harness & bow, goes into guard dog mode freaking out. At least 3 of them on separate occasions have said "HE's feisty", or "HE thinks I'm going to hurt him, I'm not"...etc. This is even as I'm saying "Princess, no barking"! LOL, I can't help but laugh & wonder if this is why it's so hard for them to fix things sometimes.:p |
I know and you can repeat it several times but it doesn't matter still referred to by the opposite gender.:D Well I have another one , this is a little off topic. Kirby is a bichon frise . People have asked what she is. I told the individuals. They still call her a poodle. Why is it that every white fluffy dog is a poodle? So Kirby gets double insults. She is a boy poodle in pink.:D |
I think yorkie are thought of as girls because of the familiar topknots and long flowing coats. Kirby is thought of as a boy because she hates bows and wears bandanas. |

I had a guy at a pet store tell me that despite the fact that it was red with skulls and cross bones that I had to ditch the bow. :( |
I think we notice more when someone calls our dogs the opposite of their sex so it sticks out in our minds more. People call Jimmy and ChiChi girls but when I think back they also call them boys :) |
Some people just call every animal a he. My Dad knows both of my dogs are girls but constantly says 'he'...probably bc he has a boy dog and is used to saying that all the time. I will have Pita in a pink bow, a pink harness AND a pink leash and some people will still ask if she's a boy or a girl...HELLO! It doesn't really bother me but I make sure and correct them ;) |
