Natural Health Alternative to cataracts? Hello YTers I was wondering if any of the YT have had an issue with cataracts with their furbabies! I know that one option is surgery, but I wanted to know if any of my Furbaby Owners have used and or been successful with otehr alternatives. Thanks! |
I am interested in this as well, so I will bump this thread up for you. My Shadow is going to be 11 years old next month, and he is developing cataracts in both eyes. Perhaps someone else has heard of some natural remedies to put off surgery a little longer. |

Sorry I don't have an answer unless it would be surgery. Tina has them in both eyes but she is 14. She weighs no more than my yorkies. (schnauzer) She is old and very tiny and when I took her in for her yearly Welliness my vet said no way would she put her under at her age and I would not even consider before she said that. I put drops in them twice a day that is a prescription my vet gave me and thats all we can do considering all the health issues. Good luck on doing something for your baby before its too late. Age would be what would make me not consider surgery. |
Wylie has a cataract in one eye. We took him to a Vet Ophthalmologist about 1.5 yrs ago -- and the most important thing is to get your kiddo on the anti-inflamm eye drops (every other day) from the vet. If the eye/cataract gets inflamed (which is easier now that there is a cataract), the cataract can get much worse. The drops are to help delay progression. Surgery is an option, like you said. We're not their yet either. Gosh, I don't know of natural things you could try... |

I'm glad this subject came because I am going to check in with him this wk, and ask about those eye drops. I've yet to get a second opinion (which I will do) from another opthamologist here in Toronto. |

My 9year yorkie has had them since we think birth and although they are most likey the root of her aggression concerns she can do anything she wants from chasing and catching bakes to jumping on and off chairs and moving from house to house with our many moves in the last few years and learning pretty fast where everything in. Only thing we are careful about is in the dark we know where she is or she on leash cause then her eyes sight is really more limited. JLC. |
