Puppy won't go in crate? I have a beautiful little 5 month old girl yorkie, and she has been the best puppy I've ever had up untill I took her to petsmart to get her first puppy cut, now she will not even go near her crate. Any suggestions on how to get her to like her crate again? - Eric |
Callie wouldn't go into her crate at night so at bed time I would say go to bed and put her in there and give her a treat and eventually she learned the command go to bed and we still use it. If the groomer had cage driers that might be why she is afraid to go into her crate and I cant blame her those things would be scary to me and they can cause burns. Maybe you should ask if they use cage driers and if they do try to find a groomer who doesn't. |
Make it a great place to go - put her favorite treats in it often - tie a bully stick inside - positive positive messages. Sounds like she had a bad experience at the groomer :( |
[QUOTE=LiLu2011;3722448]I have a beautiful little 5 month old girl yorkie, and she has been the best puppy I've ever had up untill I took her to petsmart to get her first puppy cut, now she will not even go near her crate. Any suggestions on how to get her to like her crate again? Good afternoon! And welcome from the UK! :wavey: This is only from memory, but I believe there have been a few posts on here about grooming at Petsmart with the littlies :aimeeyork being 'dried' in the crates and instances of being burnt. In the future, I personally would change my groomer - and in the meantime try everything to entice her into her crate to make it the safe haven that she knew. How horrible and sad for you that you've had this set-back at this little, vulnerable, early age :( Hope you get back to normal soon. Sally + Harry x |
I agree with the above post. My concern would be what is causing this type of fear in your dog. She had no problem until this grooming. I would never take her back there. Something totally unacceptable happened to you baby at that place. Since she is so traumatized by this is there any way you can let her sleep some where else? Maybe an X pen or something? If she is trained can she possibly just sleep in her dog bed or wherever she sleeps during the day? |
