Doggy nail caps!?! Hey! I was just looking around Ebay to see if I could find items that I may need for Little Lucky. I was looking for a waste bag dispenser, when I came across an item called doggy nail caps! I thought this was so odd! They looked like little plastic shells. They came with 20, (your choice of several colors) one for each nail and a tube of glue to glue them on. It kind of reminded me of fake nails and nail glue. I haven't seen anything like this before. They said it was a 'safer alternative to declawing' and a 'great way to protect furniture and hard wood floors'. So obvi, I wouldn't be ordering a product like for Lucky anytime soon. But I was wondering if anyone has heard of these, and what your thoughts are!? |
I know someone who used them on their cat. It saved her furniture. I think also the cat didn't get the satisfaction of scratching so she didn't need to keep them on all the time. |
Are you sure they werent for cats because I have never heard of declawing a dog or nail caps for dogs they are usually for cats |

These were def for dogs! I found it real odd too. I don't think I would do it, all I would think of while putting them on was I was giving my dog fake nails! That is what they remind me of! |
I've seen them for dogs and cats. I don't know anyone that has tried them for dogs. There are a few people around here that use them on their cats with some success. |
I was leaving Petsmart yesterday and as I was sitting in my car, a man came out with a big lab type dog and she had on pink nail caps. First time I have ever seen that. I thought maybe she was just groomed there and they put them on to protect his car? It looked pretty weird. |
If I was into showing and etc then I could see why a shower/handler would want them on their dog maybe during a week or two before a show or something but yeah for just a everyday pet I wouldn't bother. Now for the sake of leather furnitrue/car seats maybe.... but still I can't ever see using them on Maci haha even though she has looong nails from previous owner not clipping them regularly lol. |
My 2 little yorkies have and wear nailcaps. My five pd girl toots has sparkly pink ones and my little cj 3 pds wears black ones. The groomer puts them on. The reason we put them on is because my husband is a diabetic and the wee babys nails are constantly scratching his legs, so for infection puposes they have them. Also he is a dialysis patient and they are constantly in chair with him around his arm. Our groomer suggested it thought it would be a good thing for my husband. Since the furkids are around him alot. |
If you just want colored nails use dog nail polish. I've used them. They were originally to cover split nails-cut into quick by vets etc. Scoobers has severe issues he has to be semi sedated to have his nails done Scoobers had to be really worked with to stay down. Anyways I've actually used them (not to protect hardwood floors or leather furniture-gee why no declaw your dog-that's lame IMHO) to protect the kids but he never jumped on them instead he ate three nail covers and thankfully passed then just fine. Honestly they never fit right it was annoying I wasn't going to use the glue. Anyways they are junk plastic wastes of money to me. Edit: In the case of the poster above I see why they are necessicary. |
I really have no use for them. But now that I see they can be beneficial for certain purposes, it is something to keep in the back of my mind. Now, is there really such thing as doggy nail polish!? I thought they just used regular people nail polish. |

I think if your baby has allergies and itchy skin, the nail caps would help to keep from tearing the skin by scratching. Just a thought.:rolleyes: |
