The most terrifying thing ever I took Scooter and Bitsy for a walk today. We were about a block from the house when I looked up and saw a Husky coming right at us. I picked up Scooter and by then the dog was on Bitsy. She's a Lhasa Apso and weighs about 20 pounds. She pulled so hard that she came out of her collar and she and the Husky took off with the Husky right on her tail. The owner was on a bike and she said "no" a few times but that was it. I was screaming no, no and running after them. Scooter was in my arms screaming. At the end of our block is a very busy boulevard where the cars go at least 50 and they were headed for it. Amazingly Bitsy ran right for our house and up on the porch. The lady across the street saw it and ran over and grabbed Bitsy till I got there. The stupid owner just kinda came up on her bike at slow speed and took her dog and said "sorry". I am still shaking over this stupid woman. How dare she let that big dog off leash? It could have been so, so much worse I don't even want to think about it. |
OMGosh! I would probably tried to kill that dog & I am sure the owner would have gotten a piece of my mind. So glad things turned out ok........Bet it will take a while before you can settle the nerves. |
That sounds just terrifying! I am so glad your Bitsy made it back to the house safely and all is well, though your heart has skipped a few beats. After my Yorkie was attacked by a Dalmation and had to have emergency surgery for her injuries, I began walking with a old, strong black umbrella that I can open up toward an approaching menacing dog and it turns them right away - no hesitations. It has worked now for years and with lots and lots of big dogs and not one has ever tried to keep coming with my umbrella unfurled! They just go the other way or if their owner is with them and makes them keep walking, they shy well to the other side from the brolly. |
Do you live in an "association" neighborhood? Thankfully we do and all dogs are required to be on a leash at ALL times. Thank goodness for your neighbor! I would be shaking as well |
Yikes!!! So glad that you're ALL okay, holy cow:eek: So many people get big dogs and then don't have the sense to keep them on a leash, or to properly train them either:( I love the umbrella idea and am going to get one so that I might actually walk my girls again. We have a fenced yard and I rarely walk them outside of it, out of fear of something like this happening. Lot of people around here have bigger dogs and just let them out with no leash, no supervision. |
Reading that I can just imagine your fear. What a smart dog Bitsy is to run right home to safety! What is so difficult about people keeping control of their dogs??? |
Sorry? REALLY?! I think she would of ridden off with a whole new education about the leash law. Possibly with a much broader vocabulary. WOW some owners are so mindless. |
I can well imagine how you felt! So happy to know it turned out happy. I was almost afraid to keep reading for fear of what was coming next.WHEW! Luckily I live in the country with no other houses around except my mom and she's across a pecan orchard with only a little rescue doxie about the same size as my 2 babies. I just rescued my yorkie little over a week ago and he is on leash even out here because he seems prey driven. I have a rescue doxie that doesn't need one as she was well trained and never steps paw out of our yard, but if in town or I know company is coming, she gets one put on just to be on the safe. It never ceasts to amaze me how people get these HUGE dogs and never supervise them!!! A neighbor that lives several miles down the road lets her GREAT DANES roam the roads, and they tried to jump on me at my mail box one day! Needless to say, I have called animal control on her several times. Now I don't see them anymore,LOL. So happy everything turned out and God bless your neighbor for stepping in, that doesn't happen much these days! She's a keeper! :) |
WOW! I am so glad that your scary walk had a happy ending. You might consider contacting Animal Control and find out what your legal rights are to protect your "property". We all know that our Yorkies are our furchildren, but legally they are called else. If I were you I'd keep my cell phone on me when I took the kids for a walk and if the Husky appears again off lead, call 911 and file a complaint. Again, I am so glad to hear that your walk from hell had a happy ending. I'll say a calming prayer for you. |
