Having trouble housetraining!!! My 3 and a half purebred yorkie is having trouble with his housetraining. He is doing great with peeing on his wee wee pad but he poops all over our floor. We got him about a month and a half ago and have been doing pretty good. I think (I want your oppinion on this too) he is also having trouble with biting. He doesn't bite anyone except for my daughter ( Who is the designated owner, all though I usually clean after him) that is 10. I really need help and think this is important to do at this age. |
When I was getting my yorkie to use the pad, she did the same thing. When she pooped around the house, I cleaned it up and used that spray that hides the scent. If you don't get that scent up, then your yorkie is going to continue to go there. Another mistake I made was that I didn't put the wee wee pads in enough spots around the house... I just set one or two out. For training reasons, you could also put your dog into a playpen area with a wee wee pad in it. Most importantly, ALWAYS reward your dog when he goes in the right place! He'll learn that if he goes potty on the pad, then he'll get a treat! Not sure about the biting of your daughter and how to fix that. But honestly, if you're the one who cleans up his mess and feeds him, then you're the owner. Good luck! :) |
me too I'm anxious to see other answers to this thread - I was going to start a new housebreaking thread when I finished TEARING OUT MY HAIR! We have clean pee pads in several places and have most rooms blocked off so, generally, I can see where Gracie is all the time. There are a couple of areas in the living/dining room that are not in my direct line of sight and woudn't you know, that's where she pees. She seems to be marking, not really emptying her bladder - she's just peeing a little. I'm also sure it's not UTI as she can go all day without doing it, but then the next day (that would be today!) I'm cleaning up spots every couple of hours. The vet and trainer both said that girls will mark - I think she's still trying to establish herself as the alpha dog or something like that. I use Nature's Miracle - I'm going through so much of it I might take stock out in the company! Anyway, I think I'm going to tether her to me - starting tomorrow - I might kill her if I do it today! (No judgmental comments please - I'm kidding - I have a hard time even scolding her because she's so dang cute and looks at me like 'it wasnt me - it must have been that other invisible dog!') |
sigh, my Hot Rod (4) pees on the pad with no problems. He prefers to poop outdoors and has for awhile. He just doesn't like to poop on the pads and will hold it or find a spot in my front hallway. :( We've go so far as to gate off the front part of the house again. :( But its worked. "crate" training 101. It must be something as they get older. Maggie is 3 1/2 and has for the past several months seem to stop wanting to use the pad to poop as well. She will if she has to but seems to prefer going outdoors. We have pads in daddy's garage and they "go out" throughout the day and nite as well as go for normal walks. The garage thing started last year when it was knee deep snow outside. It's worked great as hubby takes them out first thing in the morning and we I get up, I take them for their walk. |
