When did your yorkie stop growing? I am asking because so many people are trying to figure out how much their baby is going to weigh when grown. (I did the same thing with Lexi) So many people said she would be grown by 6 months. (WRONG) Lexi weighed 3lbs 2ozs at 5 months, and at 6 months was 5lbs on the nose, she is now almost a year old and weighs 6lbs 5ozs. I do know she was still growing at 9 months. I am not at all complaining about my Lexi's weight, she is absolutely PERFECT. I am also not complaining about people who are asking what their pups will weigh as I said I asked and wanted to know. I just think we are misled when we hear they stop growing at 6 months. My first vet swore that they are done at 6 months the vet I now have said give them the first year. |
I know I hear people tell posters that all the time and My male gained a lb at 10 months old. I think all dogs have their own growth pattern. |
I just got out Candy's records and she was 2lbs on the the nose at 8 months and 2lbs 8ozs at 1 year and at 10 years 2lbs 9ozs and at 11 years 3lbs 4 ozs. |
Gosh! I should know, but you forget as time passes! :D I'm thinking that they might gain their full size in their skeleton by 6 months maybe? And then any additional growth is in weight? |
yes, I just posted a reply to a previous post about size. My KimMee added about 10 ozs these last two months, like a growing spurt. She got a little taller, bigger chest and more weight. I started walking her more which helped her appetite. I also starte feeding her different foods after listening to my trainer instead of the vet. My trainer believes dogs need a variety of foods, not the same old dog food everyday. Now, I add our dinner to her bowl. She is 16 months old and now weighs 4 lbs, 5ozs. I guess like kids, dogs grow at different rates too! |

Eddie was growing for the first full year, and he's added a pound since then. I'm not sure if I'm overfeeding or not, but he was 7.7 pounds at 1 year, and he's 8.5 now at 18 months. I'm starting to get a little concerned, not for how much he weighs but what type of weight that last pound is. |
Hmmmmmm...with the exercise he gets - he always seems to be running :D - it's probably all muscle! :D |

It certainly does depend on the dog. My maltese Chloe continued to gain weight until about 10 months old. At 6 months Tinkerbell was 5 pounds and that continues to be her weight at 10 months. I agree with yorkieusa, maybe they fill out more as time passes (neck & chest) but their structure(heighth and length) stays about the same?? |
Well, I think that when people say their Yorkies stop growing, they mean in height and length not weight. No matter how old your dog is, he/she can gain and lose weight. Your Yorkie's weight will probably never stop changing no matter how old he/she is. There is no age when they "stop" |
