Hi Guys Hi Guys, Im new to the forum and just wanted to say Hi to you all. I have read lots of the posts and you sound like a great bunch of people. Im in the UK and I pick my first yorkie pup up 2 days before Xmas. Im just wondering how you suggest I get started. The breeder I am buying my baby Tino from has suggested that I keep him in a big cage while he's a pup so he feels more secure with everything in there for him. Just wondering if any of you guys do? Also, where do I start with training? When I get him, he will have learned to pee on newspaper, but where do I go from there? Thanks Alona |
Hi there and WELCOME!!!! There is tons of info on here about potty training and info for first time yorkie owners!!! I know you are excited about getting your little Tino!!! Hope you'll stick around and post pictures when you get him!!! We love pictures :) |
Thanks! I do have a couple of pics of him, but I cant seem to post them. I'll keep trying though! :) |
Welcome Aboard! We have a few members from the UK, so hopefully you can make some new friends here and maybe even have a chance to meet for a play date!! As for posting pictures, go to the My Yorkie forum and there is a sticky at the top with instructions for posting pictures. Good luck! A lot of us use crates for our dogs. All of mine have their own crates, but are old enough that they are very rarely in them. Only if they want to be. If you do a search on here with the keyword 'crate' you should find lots of information. Now the countdown until you get your new baby! Congratulations! |
trying to post them.... |
Hello and welcome to yorkietalk! |
I trained Chloe to potty on her potty pads. She also used newspaper before she came home. She got the hang of it really quick and she also goes outside. I would suggest that you start him out by letting him sleep in his crate with a soft toy and his blanket. Chloe loves her crate to sleep in...only at bedtime. The only time we keep her in a pen is when we go out, but we try to take her with us whenever we can. We got the Xpen at Babies R Us, and its big enough for toys, food and water, her bed, blanket and her potty pad. Of course if you are away during the day, your baby does need to be confined....but not in a small crate all day. A larger pen will keep your baby safe while you are gone. I'm sure you will get a lot of really good advice on Yorkie Talk. Welcome to our Yorkie Talk Family......glad you are with us. I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Chloe is almost 7 months old now and weighs 4 lbs. We have watched her grow up right here on Yorkie Talk. In fact, I've seen so many sweet, darling babies grow into beautiful young boys and girls!!! Cute little fellow, how old is he going to be when you get to bring him home? |
Hi and Welcome! As previously said, you'll find lots of good information here. I also highly recommend that you visit this sight: http://www.clickersolutions.com/arti....htm#behaviors |
Oh he is soooooo cute!!!! Chloe sends lots of hugs and kisses. Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose |
Welcome! :Puppy: Welcome to YT and Congrats on your new pup!! |
Thanks for the kind words guys. He'll be 6-8 weeks when we get him, depending if he is ok to leave his mummy then. Dont want to upset him too soon. Im so excited though! Ive already sorted out some training lessons for him once he reaches 12 weeks so he can be taught stuff properly! |
Please let him stay with his mommy til he is at least 8 weeks, even longer if need be. 6 weeks for a tiny baby is just way to early to leave mommy. What does your breeder say? Joy |
Hello and Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Have a look around I am sure you will find many answers to whatever question you might have and I also agree try to keep the pup with it's Mom until it is at least 8 weeks... |
