Help! How to remove dried pee stain from carpet? I am trying to help an elderly neighbor find something to remove a large dried potty stain from her carpet. The carpet is beige and the potty stain is very large (about 12 inches around) made by a Boxer. It has been dried in the carpet for some time. I plan to get her any product that might work for this but I don't know if there is anything. There is also a bad musty dog smell in her house so I need to try to get that out too. There are probably more stains that she doesn't know about. Can anyone help? If the stain can't be removed I suggested that she get a throw rug to cover it because she is very upset about the stain. Thanks! |
Just heard about a product that might help you. My friend lives next door and his dog likes to tinkle on the carpet. He tried all sorts of products. He got ZEP spot and stain remover and he said it got the stain out. I think he got it in Home Depot. Hope this helps! Good luck! |
Nature's Miracle sold at pet stores works for us. You need something with an enzyme in it to take out the protein left in urine. The enzyme is a bacteria that actually eats the protein, and the protein is what causes the smell and the animal to return to the spot. However this takes time to work, and you have to let the spray dry naturally. It might take many treatments, and if the urine has saturated the pad, you might have to pull the carpet back, and replace the pad. Many products will take out the stain, you need something that removes all the protein, so that other dogs won’t be attracted to the spot. |
Thank you!!! I will try it. :):) |
I find that repeated treatments with Spot Shot work really well, too. Just don't oversaturate the carpet. Clean, let dry, clean...etc. Good luck. So nice of you to help your neighbor! |

I first mist the area with Bissell carpet shampoo for pets, and work that in. I then use my Haans steamer with the brush attachment. Area is then as good as new!! |
We have a cat that insists on peeing on everything....and if you have cats you know how hard it is to get the smell out of furniture, carpet etc. We swear by Nature's Miracle - Advanced. We just dump it on, let it soak and the soak it up with a towel. We have also used it on things Sophie has peed on and we have always had really good results with it. |

I'm not sure if she has a vaccuum with a brush and I'm not sure that she would know either. Do any of these treatments need to be applied with a sponge and rubbed? Or will we need to get a brush and scrub the stain? Thanks for the help and great suggestions. |
I just tried natures miracle....still working on potty training, so we have the occasional accident. It honestly works wonders!!!!! I have brand new carpet, so any stain that pops up, I'm quick to remove. I had to do the process about 2 times, but after that it is completely gone! Hope that helps! |
"Your pet, sweet as he is, made a mess. Luckily, you have your trusty bottle of Nature’s Miracle Stain & Odor Remover handy, so you know the stain and the smell will be eliminated soon. However, to make sure the mess is completely removed, it’s important to use Nature’s Miracle properly – a quick “spray-wipe-and-run” might appear to take care of business, but in reality, you’ve only scratched the surface of the problem. Here’s how to REALLY get to the root of the problem of your pet’s nasty leave-behind. First, get as much of the stain or odor as possible off the floor (or furniture.) If it’s urine, blot it up with a paper towel; for mud, feces or vomit, dispose of as much of the solid matter as possible. Next, always test an inconspicuous spot of your carpet or furniture for color fastness before using Nature’s Miracle (and never use it on leather, silk or suede.) Then, pour Nature’s Miracle Stain & Odor Remover directly onto the area at full strength – no diluting needed. For carpet, use enough to completely saturate the area and soak through to the padding and subfloor. A good rule of thumb is that a one-square-foot area will need a pint of Nature’s Miracle; a four-square-foot area will need a quart. If your carpet is soaking wet, you’ve probably used enough. Allow it to sit for about 20 minutes, and then blot the product up. For a tough stain, use a bristle brush to rub the Nature’s Miracle in before blotting. Now a little patience is required. It’s very important that you allow the carpet to dry naturally – no fans or heat to speed it up. By the time the carpet is dry the stain and odor should be completely eliminated. If it’s not, you might have missed an area, so it should be re-treated. Hard floors like hardwood, linoleum and cement are also very easy to clean up using Nature’s Miracle Dual Action Hard Floor Stain & Odor Remover. Just blot or pick up as much of the mess as possible, and then spray the area with the Hard Floor product. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, and then blot it up. For extra-tough, set-in stains, you’ll want Nature’s Miracle Advanced Stain & Odor Formula, our most advanced formula incorporating the best-performing cleaning technologies" Taken from Nature's Miracle Blog |

Nature's Miracle works wonders... but if you can't get that, then 50% white vinegar and water soaked on the fibers for about 5 minutes, then blot dry with a paper towel. Then rinse with water and blot again. Then hydrogen peroxide and detergent (or an oxy cleaner) and scrub with a scub brush. Then you can blot dry. Good luck! Hope this helps!!! |
Do you think Wal Mart would have Nature's Miracle? |

I found it at Petsmart. They have tons of different types (oxy powered, orange scented, advanced....etc) I got a HUGE bottle for about 12 bucks |

Try odoban. Sold at home depot. You can use it on stains and also shampoo the carpet with it. Works great. |

It so good to know that I'm not the only one whose cat likes to pee everywhere except the litter box :p. But since Brandi uses potty pads, my cat now uses the potty pads to pee and the litter box to poop. She's going into kidney failure (She's 13 yrs old) so using the potty pads have been great for the both of them. They each have their own potty pads area that they use. I also use Nature's Miracle and I swear by it. I usually get the industrial size. It's expensive but a lot cheaper than replacing carpets or hardwood flooring. I usually use Nature's miracle and my hand carpet cleaner, that usually does the job. |

Removing pet stains Hi, another good product is 123 Odor Free from Just Rite Cleaning products. It comes with Yellow-out, Odor Free and Odor Neutralizer. You have to speak directly to Bill to order it. First you apply the yellow out and blot, then you inject the Odor Free directly into the carpet so it goes down into the carpet pad, then you spray the odor neutralizer. The last step is to put a dampened (not wet) white cloth over the spot and tap with your foot and let it dry overnight. This draws the urine out of the pad/carpet onto the white cloth. I think the key is injecting the product into the pad and then letting it draw up into the white cloth/paper towel. Perhaps you could do this with Natures Miracle too - you would just need a syringe to inject into the carpet. He also recommends using a black light to find the urine stains if they are not visible. |

Removing pet stains Just FYI - I've been using this for quite some time now as my yorkie male goes outside and also uses wee wee pads - although he hits the wee wee pads most of the time, he still sometimes decides to go where he pleases. He has always been a challenge that way. I notice that recently Bissell introduced something using a syringe - I think they took the idea from Just Rite as I really feel that injecting the solution into the carpet vs just blotting was Bill's original idea. |
You can also try a mixture of 1/2 water 1/2 white vinegar. Spray generously on the area and let it sit for about 5 minutes, then scrub the carpet with a brush or other item. Once you have spot treated all the stains with the mixture, you can shampoo the carpets with a regular carpet shampooer. |
