worrying like crazy My anxiety is going through the roof about Callie's surgery. I am so nervous something is going to happen to her and I'm worried I wont have every thing I need for her after the surgery. If I buy anymore stuff my grandma and my bank account are going to scream but I want to have everything she needs so I don't have to leave her. I think I would just die if anything bad happens to her. She is getting her presurgery blood work next week as well as getting groomed next week. I have a play pen, a comfy bed for in the play been, super crazy soft blankies, a water bottle so I can make sure she has access to water with out having a bowl that could spill every where, I got her a snuggle puppy and extra heat things for it so she can cuddle up to it if shes cold (she already sleeps cuddled up to it now) I got a pup head so hopefully she will use that and I don't have to take her out in the dark or if it snows, I also ordered a Kiss e-collar from Bo, I have a crate to use in my bedroom for bed time and I think that's it but I am so worried she is not going to want to eat or that she is going to be very cold at the vet hospital because she wears clothes almost all the time and gets cold easy. Do you think they would let me leave a shirt for them to put on her after surgery? They made special notes about her hypoglycemia issues and mild collapsing trachea and to not use her collar for anything but use her harness. I think I am going to write on the inside of her harness which leg is which because the groomer always does it wrong and I wanna make sure its on right. I guess I just need some of my YorkieTalk family to tell me its gonna be ok. Geeze 12 days to go and I'm gonna be a crazy worrier all of them. |
Awwww, bless your heart. You are such a good momma to Callie. I can feel the love in your post. :) Callie is going to do great! We are all going to pray for her and she is going to amaze you! We are starting the prayers now for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Hugs to you and Callie. |
Bless you and Callie! I will be praying for you guys! |
Deep breaths. The surgeon does this kind of thing just about everyday. It is easier for the staff if you leave nothing with her except for what they ask for. They have to keep track of it otherwise and that can be difficult. Just let them know she gets cold easily and they will give her extra blankies. She will be closely monitored, including her temperature and whether or not she is shaking, so this isn't something that you have to worry about. She will also have an IV in which may go in her front leg. They may not even be able to put a shirt on her... I didn't think most dogs came home casted after LP surgery anymore. Not sure that getting her feet wet would hurt a thing. And if the surgeon doesn't want her wet, there are ways around it. Plastic bag over the leg when it's wet out... It sounds like you have everything. And because her recovery is going to be something like 8 weeks, chances are high that you'll have to leave a time or two. That is completely okay. They aren't going to send her home if she is unstable (which is not likely anyway). She should have somebody with her for a couple-few days and then she'll be good to go it alone anyway. She should be just fine. :) |
I'll be pray for both of u! U sound like u have everything to me. I'm sure she will be fine :) |
Awww, sending  and get well :hands: to both you and Callie. Try not to be too anxious, Callie will sense it and become anxious as well. Sounds like you have everything you'll need to provide Callie with a comfortable recovery from her surgery. Callie is so lucky to have such a caring mom. |
Oh, sweet, try your best not to worry. There is one person who wants that baby to do as well as you do during and after surgery and that is the operating vet. They will keep your baby safe and you will have a much better-feeling little dog when the surgery is done and she has healed. She is going to feel so much better that it will all be worth it then so try to think of that - the day you know she is finally all healed and is doing di-dee-dohs on that "new" knee and it will be like new to have that old LP gone. I will sure be praying that the surgery result is perfect! |
Thanks everyone. We definitely appreciate the prayers and thoughts. This surgeon and his staff does seem great instead of laying her on the cold table to check her out they brought in a towel and layed it on the table and then put her down on it and he was so awesome about explaining it I just have to trust him. |
sending prayers for you and Callie, for the next 12 days to go by fast, and for a speedy recovery for Callie! |
I can be a worrier too. It sounds like you have done a great job getting everything ready for her for the surgery. We are here and will be praying for little Callie. She is such a special girl. |
Lots of times they will warm towels up to lay them on after surgery. Which is really nice sending prayers for the surgery. And hugs for you.. |

I know how special Callie is to you and I know you are going to worry yourself to death no matter WHAT we say. But I understand, sort of, and am hear for you if you need to vent or be a worrywart! We all love these furbutts so much and they wrap their little paws around us. Wishing you good luck... Callie won't need it, she will be fine ;) It's the humans who need the help! |
Well one thing helped ease the stress a little its a small thing so don't laugh, I am trying to be positive. Her water bottle with stand came in today and I washed it and put fresh water in it and set it on the floor to see if she would use it and right away she used it and went back to it a few minutes later. That helps a little because now I know she will be able to have access to water with out spilling it all over the play pen. One small victory :D |
Ohhhh! Of course you're going to worry, you're a wonderful, loving, extremely caring mummy! The thing is, Callie knows nothing about it - and won't. :) I think it's us that need the pre-meds! Just to put your mind at ease a little - there's an English Bull Terrier in our Close that had to have the same op as Callie a couple of months ago. You should see her now!! :dogwalk: She's like a 'new' dog, it's done wonders for her. You have everything you need (that I can think of!) and also remember, they keep the surgery really warm too. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Sally + Harry x |
I had a Maltese that had this surgery 6 weeks ago. He had a bandage on his leg for a week. We used Glad Press'n Seal on his bandage when we would take him out to potty to keep his bandage clean and dry. The surgery did not slow him down a bit. We had to crate him a lot so he would rest and heal. We went for our 6 weeks checkup today. The doctor released him and he is enjoying the freedom to run around. He loves to run and has really missed it. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. |
