The Golden Yorkie...deal? When it comes to getting a new pet, I searched long and hard to meet the right yorkie. I wasn't familiar with parti yorkie's so when I found a breeder with some I did a little research. The pup in my avatar is the one we're getting in two weeks. After reading about biewers and parti's im now wondering if im getting sold a mixed breed. I met the parents and they were in fact yorkies, mom was a carrier and dad was a parti they had traditional pups and partis. The dog I chose is a golden parti, i think. The breeder charged me $650, but looking at some sites I see parti's are less but some are even more. The breeder said she's cutting me a deal because she really liked me but..now im not sure ><;; Does this seem like a /good/ deal? |
I wish I could help you. What a cute puppy! I thought I'd bump up your post and perhaps some of those with parties and biewers will see your thread and answer your questions. |
If she is healthy she would likely be a wonderful pet. I think that is what you want isn't it? She looks adorable!! |
Aw...I think Teddy is just gorgeous. I can't answer your questions, but for a pet I think the cost is very reasonable. Zhoie is simply my pet, cotton coat and all...but she is the world to me:thumbup: Congrats on your new baby...I bet you are so excited. |
First of all, the pup in your avatar is adorable! To answer your question, there are 2 schools of thought on this topic. #1- a parti is not up to standard. Since they are not up to the established standard, they should be homed for a lesser price. #2- some people consider partis as "rare" and will charge an arm and a leg for them. I disagree with the second school of thought, but not sure I agree with the first. Either way, as long as the breeder did all the health testing on the breeding pair, and the pup checks out, enjoy your puppy! :) If they don't even know what health tests to conduct, you're in trouble! |
Yall are totally right! Health-wise he is going to come with all of his shots sans rabies as he won't be old enough. His parents are proven from the california lineage (just learned about this a few minutes ago) and have clean bills of health and Yes I am really looking forward to picking him up! |
Soooooo adorable!!!! The price is awesome!!! Parti yorkies seem to be all the rage anymore so that's why I say it's a great price :D |

no, breeder said they can't be shown thus can't be champions. She said they are DNA tested to prove they are full yorkie and that they are descendants of the first parti yorkie's accepted by AKC from california. She said she will give me a copy of this information when I pick him up because all this was discussed over the phone |
Even if the pups can't be shown, you can still register them. Even my pup who is the "correct colors" can't be shown because he's pet quality. (2 words: Afro hair :p) I find it odd that breeders claim lineage to AKC dogs, but then can't produce AKC papers for the dogs in their litter. I'm not saying this is your situation, rather something to keep an eye out for. The whole point is, even if they are parti yorkies, they should be able to be registered anyway. Otherwise, I'd be suspicious that someone somewhere bred dogs with AKC papers even though the breeder didn't have the permission to breed. Therefore, all offspring from that breeding cannot be registered. Sorry if I sound jaded! So many people on YT, including myself, have been had when getting a dog. I personally live my dog, but we struggled so much at he beggining. Be informed, and research, research, research. |
Is the cost reasonable ? Yes, AKC pet quality Yorkie here in Fl. go for around $800. Other YT members that live in Texas may know what pet Yorkies are routinely sold for. Is it a mixed breed ? I can not answer that, but she said she has DNA test results. You can ask for a copy. I think the puppy is adorable. |
Your baby is a doll and I think the price is good considering I paid 1200 for Bella strictly for a pet lol! |
I think the puppy is absolutely adorable and agree that the price is right. That is about the going rate for a pet quality Yorkie here in Ohio. Congratulations! |

Yes, she had the parents brought to the vet for hip laxity, an eye screen, DNA, and to rule out other predisposed genetic issues before she bred them. I didn't say they weren't AKC sorry! They are, but they can't be champions because they can't do dog shows because the parti color can't enter the ring. I posted this before I found out they were DNA tested, but I def. will ask to see all of this paper work before we take him home. She does have a health guarantee but she said she won't guarantee against hypoglycemia. It sounds like I paid the right price, so whew DH was giving me grief about it. |
