Question ... on cremation Sorry to start the weekend off with a morbid topic, but I need answers -- and from people I trust.;) So, who better than YT?! We have had Ozzie cremated. (We had to put him down Tuesday as many of you know.:() I opted for cremation as eventually, I'd like to have his remains with mine. But, since I've never done this before -- and I know that some of you have -- does 2 weeks sound too long? It just seems very long to me. That said, I opted for private cremation AND had a personalized plaque for the box. Really appreciate any insight from anyone who's been here. It's all still so raw anyway and now I'm concerned about this procedure and if I should have handled it differently. THANKS! |
I have had several furbabies cremated over the years and they always told me two weeks, but often I called after a week and the cremains were ready to be picked up. I am so sorry for your loss. |
I had my Chipper cremated and I also was told that it would take 2 weeks. So sorry for the loss of your baby Ozzie. |
Thanks, ladies! This is making me feel a little better.:) I know he's not in that body anymore (which was the whole point, because it had finally failed him) but after all these years of protecting and panicking and trying to do right by him, I am freakin' after turning him over to God knows who to do God knows what with him.:( |
So sorry about your little guy. My Gina took two weeks and I questioned the tech at the vet's office about the length of time it took. I had an image in my mind that whatever came back could be anyone's dog. This was terribly upsetting to me but I was assured that she would be handled with respect. It's just the idea of handing over their little body to someone. Gina is with us in her little box along with a picture and a paw print. It still hurts and it has been over a year and 8 months. You have my prayers for strength cause you are stronger than I could be, I don't think I could cope, I would be devastated with Sprocket gone. I would also want Sprocket with me always, not strange at all. Though Ozzie is gone, he isn't really and having his ashes will make or rather might make, the wound heal. Prayers and best wishes. |
I know with all of mine that I have had done, they have always said two weeks, but it is usually a week. The place my Vet uses brings the ashes back to the Vet in a beautiful box with their name on it, then my Vet call's me and I go pick up my baby for the final ride home. |
I have also had a couple dogs and a baby horse cremated. They told me 10-14 days but in most cases it was a week or so. The Vet I uses sends them out on Tuesdays so sometimes it takes a couple day for the pet to even get to the cremation place. They come home in a little oak box with a plaqe with their name, birthday, and date of death, also a little poem. Our vet also sends a symothy card. I'm sure each place is different but 2 weeks sounds about right. Private cremation means you get only YOUR pets ashes. So sorry for your loss :( |
I really, really feel for you. It's the worst time ever. I know it doesn't apply to you - but the cremation system is completely different in the UK. We had to have our 14 year old labrador put to sleep 3 years ago. We saw her laid to rest - then had to leave for about 3 hours. We had organised a private cremation. When we returned, we were able to take her ashes away in her wooden urn (that's what we'd chosen) and her plaque was done. It almost seemed too quick but at least we had her back. 3 hours start to finish. I don't know how you're coping - but I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Sally + Harry x |
My Father and my Yorkie, Pudding', died on the same day. Both of them were cremated and buried together. They were great buddies. Seems like it was about a week we had to wait. |
