Shaggy coat= itchy skin? Peanut has been really itchy, kinda started in summer. He has been to the vet, the doc says it is allergies! He had his skin spray and his allergie pills. Dh says he is more itchy when his coat is longer- I don't see a difference he is itchy no matter what! What else can i do? I dont want to drug him up on his allergy pills everday. Is there home remidies? I heard olive oil in the food helps, but then i read too much can damage the pancreatites... Help! Excuse me for typos im on my phone! |
Hmmm ok I read where I can put a little olive oil on his skin- I just did!! He is very shiny lol seems to be helping! |
Ooook guess nobody knows! |
:aimeeyork:animal36 Good Luck~ I do not have any help for you, I am sorry! I hope that it will get better ASAP! It is so hard when we can not fix it & make it all better for them... Ahhh:animal-pa |
Uni is really itchy all the time too. I have been using coconut oil on her hot spots and feeding her 1/2 teaspoon by mouth mixed in her kibble. I give her organic virgin CO. CO is medium length fatty acids, different from meat fat with are long, and the body digests it differently. Uni is also a pancreatits baby. But she is doing well on the CO, however, I don't find it really doing that much more for her. But when I put the CO on her skin she's like "aaaaahhhhhhh" I also keep a shirt on her all the time to keep her from breaking off her hair. |
if you don't want to mess up his fur you can put a teaspoon of olive oil on top of his food... so that way the olive oil is entering his body and working from the inside, and won't make his fur look all greasy. |

SWEETIEPIE- Thank you. This has been and on going battle- Seems like this is the worse itchy year yet! :thumbdown capt_noonie- I tried the Coconut chips, didnt really seem to do much.. Maybe I will do the CO might have a little different side effect.Where did you get it? I can understand how it feels good at the time, but I need something to help him stop itching. 1Ieisha/LBelle: The olive oil in the food, I heard two different reviews. Some say it is ok some say it is not. I would think it was too much for them to digest. I know if I licked some olive oil I probably wouldn't feel that great. After putting some on his skin, my friend (Vet Tech) said it wasnt a good idea, if he licked it up it could made him sick, so I washed him down with a baby wipe  |

I use wheat germ oil on Bella's food. She gets real itchy and dry more toward her tail head. Wheat germ oil has been a god send for us! I use 1tbsp for 1 cup of dry kibble. You can get it at any farm store (we buy ours in a 1 gal jug at TSC I think we pay $24 +/-). |
