Yorkies were bread to be independent thinkers, to be set on a task, and not need human intervention to accomplish it. That also leads to them being a bit stubborn as well. I think it's very important to encourage this "mental attitude", sorta makes them like smart 2 year olds. My Male Sneakers will ask (give a little yelp) when he wants out, and the Doggy Door is closed, but, My Female Becca is a lot better then he is, when it comes to busying herself by playing, when I am busy and can't interface with them directly. |
Oh yea what you want to do is exactly what I did with my now 11 month old little girl. She stays in a pen during the day while I am at work and sleeps with me at night. When she was little I put a collar on her with a bell on it at night so if she jumped off the bed I would know so she didn't just go potty somewhere as I slept. At first she cried in the pen but she got over it. I started by leaving her the first day one hour and slowly increased it. Now when I leave her she just lays down in her bed and I leave. She knows that I will always come back. They just need adjustment time. |
YES !, bells are great ! I have them on both mine (different tone for each) and I can tell where they are at, at any time day or night ! :D |
